Epson Expression Premium XP-800 Pro Reviews

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

Overall, Epson’s Premium XP-800 offers a lot of capability in a small form factor. Print quality is good, especially if you use one of Epson’s specialty papers, although you may need to tweak some settings to get the best results. Features like the ADF, touchscreen, and duplex printing/copying – coupled with better-than-stated performance – adds value to the package.

A smart MFP that performs pretty well, but it's very expensive to buy and run

If you are looking for an affordable photo printer with great photo quality that can also do more than just print photos, consider the Epson Expression Premium XP-800. It offers many of the same features as the beloved Artisan 837 including fax functionality, built-in memory card reader and front side USB, CD/DVD printing and built-in wireless, but Epson increased the print speeds, upgraded the control panel and added a duplexing 30-sheet ADF for $20 less. Yep, that's right. The Epson Expression Premium XP-800 retails for $279.99 as opposed to the $299.99 price tag for the Artisan 837. So what's the difference? The Expression Premium XP-800 has only five ink cartridges as opposed to the six ink cartridges found on the Artisan 837 or the new Photo XP-850. But don't get too excited; the costly ink pricing remained the same despite the lack of a sixth cartridge. It will cost customers $98.95 to purchase five 237XL cartridges or $60.98 for five 237 standard capacity cartridges.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

If you're not worried about operating costs--and you probably shouldn't be with a low-volume unit such as the XP-800--you'll like everything else about it. It's fast, it produces exceptionally nice output, and it lacks nothing in the way of features. The Canon Pixma MG8220 is most comparable in price and capabilities, with more paper capacity but no ADF. The HP Photosmart 7520 costs less and lacks only CD\DVD printing.

PC World‘s review Edit

Epson's Expression Premium XP-800 Small-in-one Printer is a great little multifunction that handles every SOHO chore in the book and is especially well-suited for graphic artisans. But considering how much the printer costs, it feels like the ink should be cheaper.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Epson Expression Premium XP-800 Small-in-One Printer may be petite for an MFP, but it packs a lot of features and performance into its small frame.
