In our experience, Brother makes good, solid-performing printers, and the MFC-8950DW continues that tradition. It's sturdy-feeling and easy to use, and it prints nice-looking documents. Plus, it does all that at a reasonable cost per page. Granted, this model's per-page operational cost is slightly higher than some of its competitors', but considering this multifunction machine's strengths, many users would probably find its slightly high CPP an acceptable trade-off. (If you do indeed stress a printer like this with five-figure print counts per month, though, you should weigh the CPP issue more heavily.) Still, keep in mind that this Brother model's purchase price bumps right up against the cost of several color laser models. We suspect that given the choice of having the option to print and copy color documents when needed, many would-be buyers would choose to spend the additional $100 or so. There's a distinct advantage to having the ability to turn out quality full-color documents in-house, on demand, even if it's just occasionally. Over a several-year period, this convenience could save you significant time and expense in trips to the local FedEx store.
