Cooler Master Storm Ceres-400 Pro Reviews

Fudzilla‘s review Edit

In case weight is an important consideration, the Ceres 400 looks like a good choice. Although CM Storm markets the Ceres 400 as an ultra-portable gaming headset, but it is rather bulky and cannot be folded. Still, it is a lot more compact that Sonuz or Sirius handsets and it is lighter. Besides, we see much clumsier headphones being used on a daily basis. We used the Sonuz 400 on and off for about a month and we can report that we did not experience any issues with materials or build quality. It is also rather comfortable and can be used for hours on end. The Ceres 400 is a stereo unit, audit quality is good, with ample bass and loudness for gaming and music. Unlike the Sonuz, Ceres 400 has no removable mic, which is a shame since we thought they would’ve looked more presentable than the former when without the mic. On the upside, wearing a headset with a non-removable mic doesn’t make you look like you are at the UN or on a war crimes trial. The bendy microphone housing can be adjusted, but it’s not perfect as it tends to flex back to its original position, so it needs readjustment on a regular basis. It’s a minor issue and most users shouldn’t have trouble with it.

Designed with budget-conscious gamers in mind, the CM Storm Ceres-400 by Cooler Master is a solid headset and, overall, a very good value. The construction of this headset looks and feels rugged, yet is very appealing visually. Most of this relatively large headset is matte black with just a few areas that have a glossy black finish. Red trim, silver trim, and the CM Storm logo rounds out the design. Let's be honest; the aesthetics aren't why we purchase a gaming headset. This headset, however, performs every bit as well as it looks. The 40mm drivers are a nice size and deliver deep bass while gaming, watching movies, or listening to music. The test revealed that the bass might be a bit heavy during gaming sessions, yet it is not a deal-breaker. The bass will be appreciated when watching movies and listening to music. The CM Storm Ceres-400 may not be the choice of an audiophile, but its high-quality sound will satisfy most of us. Comfort is also a primary focus when in the market for a gaming headset. The padding on the headband of the Ceres-400 is wide, long, and strategically placed in an effort to avoid leaving any part of your head exposed to hard plastic. In addition, it has large 90mm ear pads that are soft. The material used on these pads feel a bit coarse, but it isn't terribly noticeable. When gaming for long sessions, I almost forgot I was wearing these headphones. Simply stated, they are light and comfortable.

In a direct comparison with the Sonuz, the other stereo model from CM Storm, we found the Ceres 400 to be a better choice; the headset is lighter and more comfortable, and it is less bulky. The microphone bends just a little more than the one found on the bigger model, but it still needs adjustments every once in a while to be kept bent. Minor differences such as the non-detachable microphone and the simple plastic cable are not worth purchasing the more expensive and bulkier model like the Sonuz; we preferred the lightness and simplicity of the Ceres 400, combined with its crisp stereo sound.

The CM Storm Ceres-400 gaming headset is an awesome entry-level stereo headset. The $49.99 price point and impressive make this a no-brainer for someone looking for a great headset that can be used with more than just a PC.
