Let's face it—monochrome laser printers get a bum rap. They're just not sexy. Even if they catapulted out 500 pages per minute, the output would still look the same: plain ol', ho-hum black-and-white. Furthermore, the low end of the monochrome multifunction-printer market is even less exciting, with a set of features that doesn't vary much from model to model. Still, the B1265dnf prints quickly, the print quality is on par with competing models, and it has most of the features small offices and workgroups need (barring Wi-Fi support, that is). If you print more than about 25 to 50 pages per day, though, this model's 3.3-cent CPP, compared to a more costly high-volume machine, could wind up costing you plenty. To demonstrate this, let's use Dell's own $599, high-duty-cycle 2355dn and its 1.8-cent CPP in a cost-of-use comparison. (We'll assume we're using the 2355dn's high-capacity toner cartridges.)
