Canon PIXMA MG4220 Pro Reviews

printercomparison‘s review Edit

I'm sure consumers get tired of manufacturers constantly updating their hardware; it's impossible to keep up without buying a new device every six months to a year. And for the most part I wouldn't recommend it as upgradable models are often just repacked copies of the previous generation with a lower price tag and possibly one or two new features. But in the Pixma MG4220's case, you are actually getting noticeable upgrades from the Pixma MG4120 including a larger LCD and reworked control panel as well as a new software package with intuitive features, a big plus in my book as manufacturers like Epson and HP move away from providing easy to use photo software. Canon has also improved the usability of their mobile print and web connected applications for a year or two ago. Most importantly, the quality for a budget friendly photo printer still remains top notch and the compact footprint fits in nearly any home or dorm room.

Although Canon calls the Pixma MG4220 a photo MFP, its above par text quality makes it a good choice for light-duty home office use as well.

PC World‘s review Edit

For low volumes of printing, the Pixma MG4220 fits nicely into a home office. However, black ink is expensive, absurdly so with the standard-capacity cartridges.

Overall, the Pixma MG4220 is a workmanlike, decent inkjet AIO. Although it's slower than some other recent competing models, the prints, scans, and copies it makes look good, and it's easy to set up and use. Our concern, though, is that several other entry-level AIOs also produce great-looking output, but at a much cheaper cost per page. We'd feel much better about recommending this Pixma if it just didn't cost so much to use. Furthermore, if top-quality photographs are your main concern, while this model's imaging capabilities are good, you'll get much better-looking photos by stepping up to a slightly higher-priced Pixma MG model, such as the Pixma MG5320 we talked about earlier.
