ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

For now, the QX9650 represents the pinnacle of Intel desktop CPUs—and it's simply the fastest desktop CPU on the market today. As such, it's not a big improvement over the existing line, but a precursor of things to come. If you've got a fast Core 2 today, you probably won't want to upgrade. But if you've been waiting, then the QX9650—or one of its mainstream siblings in early 2008—may be just the ticket.

There is simply no denying that Intel's Yorkfield processors are going to be the source of a lot of excitement in the enthusiast community. If we had stars, I'd give them; if we had scores, they'd be high; instead Intel will just have to settle for us saying the new Core 2 Extreme QX9650 is simply the fastest processor for gaming, media encoding and just about anything else you could do on your PC.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

Utterly predictably, the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 takes the mantle of world's greatest desktop processor - bumping the incumbent QX6850 aside and sitting magisterially on the performance throne.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

The QX9650 is a fantastic processor and in fact it is now the fastest desktop processor money can buy. In a nutshell the QX9650 offers more speed, more overclocking headroom, more efficiency, while creating less heat and less noise!

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

From our benchmarks, the QX9650 is clearly partial to different types of applications, workloads and scenarios. We were able to see impressive performance gains that even exceed 10% in a clock to clock comparison in some, like Quake 4, Cinebench and DivX video encoding, but there were some that show little to no improvement at all. The performance is there, SSE4 guarantees it, but whether your applications can take advantage of it is a different matter.

xbitlabs‘s review Edit

So, Intel made another strong evolutionary move forward having prepared the launch of new Penryn processors with 45nm cores. Moreover, at the same time Intel engineers managed to reduce the new processors’ heat dissipation and power consumption although even their predecessors were quite economical already. The frequency potential has also grown a lot, which will please numerous overclocking fans.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

We at Tom's Hardware try to be very frugal when it comes to using superlatives, but our first review sample of the new Core 2 Extreme QX9650 based on the Penryn architecture proves that Intel has done a good, nay great, job.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

There's no doubt that the QX9650 is a very impressive CPU that convincingly faster than anything that's out there right now. Clearly the price places it out of the range of all but the most dedicated and well-heeled enthusiasts but it serves its purpose as a truly impressive flagship processor for Intel.

If you're looking for top speed, the QX9650 is unmatched, but you'll need to have programs that can use it to its full potential.
