Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Intel's latest Extreme Edition QX9770 processor is the fastest quad-core CPU on the market and it delivers stunning power. The new 1,600MHz front side bus doesn't bring any direct benefit but it does help Intel to raise the clock speed and we had no trouble overclocking to a staggering 4GHz.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770's announcement serves to extend Intel's dominant position at the very high-end of the desktop market. It does everything the QX9650 does - being based on the same Penryn core - but doe so that little bit faster. Released in Q1 2008 to coincide with the AMD quad-core Phenom 9900, the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 will remain the fastest desktop processor until some bright spark decides a 3.4GHz SKU is necessary.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

The new 3.2GHZ Core 2 Extreme QX9770 processor offered performance that was generally 5 - 8% faster than the previously announced Core 2 Extreme QX9650 at 3GHz, across most usage models and test conditions we explored. These gains were largely realized due to the simple increase in core clock speed but also as a result of the increase in system bus speed, in conjunction with a synchronous memory interface speed at 1600MHz. All told, the new Core 2 Extreme QX9770 is the fastest desktop processor we've ever tested to date, bar none.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

Intel is offering an excellent CPU with the 45 nm Penryn processor - however, both the way these processors are being introduced and the sudden, seemingly haphazard change to their specifications are anything but consumer friendly. For now, the 45 nm technology remains unaffordable for buyers on a normal (read sane) budget.

If you're looking for top speed, the QX9770 can't be beat—but you'll pay dearly for the bragging rights.
