Sony Xperia acro S Pro Reviews

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

Sony's Xperia Acro S wants to merge completely different areas. On the one hand, it is to be a multimedia device with all modern features and on the other, it has to fulfill the requirements on an outdoor sport device. The question remains whether an athlete wants to do sports with an almost 150 gram, 4.3 inch smartphone. Looking at things separately, it throughout meets the requirements because the installed hardware is performant and passed all executed performance tests. The casing is also well-manufactured and makes a tough impression. The IP55 and IP57 certification underlines the outdoor suitability and the ANT+ module gives the device the finishing touch in terms of connectivity. However, the Acro S also provides a lot of room for improvement. Contrasting the touted resolution and shutter rate, the camera is sooner a good performance from the marketing department than a premium product. The screen supplies decent rates and exhibits a very good brightness. However, the color reproduction is weak and becomes increasingly paler and contrast weaker the narrower the viewing angle gets. Perhaps Sony has not thoroughly considered the concept for the Acro S. The device claims to be a universal weapon in the fight against routine and all its demands. The spectrum that the smartphone is to cover is very multifarious and some conditions are contradictory. To launch a smartphone on the market with a maximum of robustness, which is a multimedia station with highest performance, connectivity and good looks using premium materials at the same time is certainly not an easy endeavor. Sony's Xperia Acro S clearly proves this.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Sony certainly hit its stride in 2012, hitting on a solid and unique looking design ID for its smartphone products. The Acro S falls in line with the rest of the family in this regard, but fails to really stand out from the pack, too. Having a rugged option is good, but there are trade-offs in size and weight to make, and if you don't feel like you're at risk of destroying your phone, then you'd be better off choosing an Xperia S, or something from Samsung or HTC instead. There's no questioning this is a generous package from Sony, though. From the camera, to the software to the included desk dock; there are things in this kit that you won't get from the competition. But then, with the exception of the dock, you will get all these things in other Sony phones, and we have to say that we probably like these other phones better.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

The Sony Xperia acro S review course is complete and it's now time to check out its scorecard and see if it's worth your hard-earned cash. To be honest, it's not easiest thing to call, as the worth of the Xperia acro S is very much dependent on how important water-resistance is to you. If you are the outdoorsy type who likes to take your smartphone to the beach but don't want to worry about it getting water-damage or filled with sand, than the acro S should definitely be on your shortlist. There's no better smartphone with an IP57 certification out there and that's that. But even if you could live without the extra protection against the elements, the Sony Xperia acro S is not to be written off too easily. It offers decent performance, a splendid 720p screen and an excellent 12 megapixel shooter, which turn the elemental resistance into an extra. You can think of it as an insurance against evenings ruined by damaged circuits. After all, as smartphones become an ever-increasing part of our lives, any accident that befalls them gets harder to live with.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Let's be serious, people. The Sony Xperia acro S may not be the best smartphone out there, but it is the ultimate water-resistant Android handset that money can buy outside of Japan. Sure, we cannot deny that it is a bit bulky and its capacitive keys are kind of tricky to use, but its flaws are greatly outnumbered by its advantages, such as the catchy design, high-resolution display, capable camera, and rich multimedia feature set. But those of you who find the Xperia acro S a bit pricy can also check out the more affordable Sony Xperia go, with a 3.5-inch screen, a dual-core processor, and water-tight body. In case you don't need a water-resistant phone, there's always the slimmer Sony Xperia SL, which has a slightly faster processor, identical, high-res display, and promising camera. The ultra-thin HTC One S is also worth checking out, especially if you are into AMOLED screens. Sure, its display resolution is lower, but the processor inside it is a notch above the acro S' S3 chip.
