Aside from the slightly lower CPP and the laser-printer emulation, the WP-4590 doesn’t offer much more, feature- and volume-wise, than HP’s excellent OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, which lists for about $200 less. Both models deliver excellent output quality and fast print speeds. That said, we do think that the WP-4590 would be a better value if it cost a little less. And we also would have liked to see support for flash-memory cards on this printer. Still, high-volume printers like these earn their keep by providing the lowest-possible cost per page, and here the WP-4590 wins out over the OfficeJet, if only by a fraction of a cent. Don't dismiss that fraction: If you do push thousands of pages through your printer, half a cent can save you hundreds of dollars per year, and thousands of dollars over several years. From that perspective, the WP-4590, despite the hefty price difference between it and HP’s comparable workhorse, can save you lots of money over the long haul. If, for example, you print 15,000 pages per month, you’ll make up that $200 price difference in just a few months. After that, the Epson model will start saving you money.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4590 is a nice, inexpensive alternative to a low-end color laser MFP for smaller corporate workgroups. It's fast enough for most scenarios, supply costs are outstandingly low, and its long warranty is better than what you’ll get from a comparably priced laser.

Meant to go head to head with color laser MFPs, the Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4590 delivers laser-class performance and low running costs.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4590 proves to be a capable small office all-in-one device and is available at a price point that may make many think twice before buying a more expensive color laser printer instead. The WP-4590 offered excellent quality, low operational costs, easy setup and decent performance and is backed by a 3-year warranty.
