PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

Overall though, the Olympus Tough TG-1 is a solid camera in more than one way, and one that easily earns our “Recommended” award.

Olympus's tough camera heritage has clearly paid off with the TG-1. The camera is clearly the result of many a generation of tweaks and enhancements. The body feel solid and assuring in build, yet features enough clever design elements to still handle well in difficult conditions. Image quality issues are the only real criticisms of the TG-1, but on the whole it's one of the best tough cameras on the market.

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

The TG-1 iHS has set the bar very high for itself, and we’re happy to say it just about reaches it. Tough cams are an increasingly popular breed, because consumers want versatility — and they deserve it. As compact systems become more and more advanced and thus expensive, we should be able to find something that can check multiple boxes, including being “lifeproof.” You can check that right off with the TG-1, thankfully, without sacrificing too much in other areas. Other compact cams will yield better image quality, but they won’t boast this bevy of features. If you’re looking for a multi-tasking machine, then the TG-1 is a great bet — especially given its $370 price tag, making it comparable to its competitors. A better sensor and more manual controls are on our wish list for this camera, but all things considered it is easily the best bet for your tough cam money.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

The Olympus Tough TG-1 certainly delivers in terms of features, it has a whole host that you don't normally find on your typical compact camera. You can even add a fisheye or tele converter. We think they are quite expensive and you even have to purchase the adaptor separately. Images are good, they excel in terms of colour reproduction, with detail not as good as it could be. We also struggled to take a decent panorama shot. If you're looking for a camera to withstand the extreme conditions, the TG-1 won't disappoint, if you have the budget.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS would be a very good camera even without a rugged design. Its go-anywhere design, GPS, fast f/2 lens, and impressive high ISO performance make it our Editors' Choice for rugged point-and-shoot cameras.
