Intel Core i5-750 Pro Reviews

pcstats‘s review Edit

Prices start at $220 CDN ($200 USD, 125 £GBP), for the Intel Core i5 750 processor, which can be paired with a $140 Intel P55 Express motherboard and a 4GB kit of dual-channel DDR3 memory for under $50... in other words around the same price you would have paid for a Core 2 Duo system. Intel's "Lynnfield" platform offers excellent value for the money.

If you want to build a powerful PC, the Core i5-750 provides great value, despite the high cost of compatible motherboards.

Intel has impressed us with the new LGA1156 processors. Given their price point with respect to the LGA1366 i7's the new Core i5 750 and Core i7 870 offering up solid performance for the mid-range user, and featuring a number of important improvements such as the integrated PCI-Express controller.

motherboards‘s review Edit

The Core i5 750 offers a compelling alternative with slightly lower performance but much lower COO (Cost of Ownership). Intel did something very interesting this launch, and for those people who want good performance, but have a budget, this is a very nice upgrade path.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Overall the Core i5 is a superb processor. Its mission was to beef up Intel's performance in the mainstream sector whilst serving the Phenom II 965 its notice as the fastest non-i7 processor. In both objectives it has succeeded, and whilst the Core i7 is still the best option for those requiring the most threads from their CPUs, this is definitely the best choice for the majority of users looking for a new Windows 7 PC this year.

Coming away from all of this testing, I am most impressed by the Core i5-750 processor. The Core i5 is without a doubt going to be the new enthusiast favorite when it comes to overclocking. That said, if you are able to purchase a Core i7-920 for $200 and are willing to spend a couple of extra dollars on the motherboard (depending on the feature set), that still proves to be a great deal that obviously will not be around forever.

Intel's new Lynnfield Core i7 and Core i5 processors weren't intended to win overall performance crowns, but they came closer than many expected them to in our testing. Clearly the big winner here is the Intel Core i5-750 in terms of performance for you dollar - it won 4 of our 6 sample results here and came in close on the others only behind the Core 2 Q8400.

The new Core i5 750 processor along with the P55 chipset is the perfect replacement for the existing Core 2 Quad range, offering enhanced performance at a more affordable price tag.

phoronix‘s review Edit

The Core i7 870 more frequently came out ahead, but still the AMD Phenom II X3 710 had a number of strong finishes especially considering its only a triple-core processor and costs just over $100 USD. Even the Core i5 750 will cost more than the AMD Phenom II X3 710. What is important to keep in mind though is that Intel Turbo Boost Technology was disabled on the processors during testing. Overall though the new Lynnfield-based Core i5 750 and Core i7 870 processors performed nicely and delivered strong performance.

xbitlabs‘s review Edit

According to our tests, the graphics card being the same, the performance of the platform with an Intel Core i7-975 EE processor can be 10 to 30% higher than that of the platform with an Intel Core i5-750. But with the current prices, buying a Core i5-750 for $200 instead of a Core i7-975 EE for $650-800 will save you about $400 or more which you can spend for a Radeon HD 5850/5870 or even GeForce GTX 480.

The Core i5 750 is an incredible value and highly overclockable even on air. If the P55 boards are as inexpensive, I can see these flying off the shelves. AMD is going to have to work very hard to recover from this one.

hardwarecanucks‘s review Edit

Realistically, not everyone needs or even has the budget for a $284 processor, and that is where the the decidedly more budget-friendly $199 i5-750 comes into play. Despite having one hand tied behind its back due to a lack of Hyper-Threading, this model put the proverbial smackdown on the Core i7-920, pretty much across the board.

Conversely, the Core i5 750 was one of the best overclocking CPUs we've ever encountered. Again without changing anything but the base clock (up to 150MHz) we were able to get this CPU running at 3.8GHz in Turbo Mode.

Considering its performance surpasses pricier CPUs from AMD (and approaches Intel Core i7 chips that cost hundreds more), the Core i5 is a groundbreaking CPU for builders and upgraders on a budget.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

For the Core i5-750 to become a truly great purchase, we believe that there need to be a bunch of respectably-featured boards closer to the £100 mark because, even with the P55-GD65 and cheaper memory, the platform costs aren't much lower than a Core i7-920 based system.

benchmarkreviews‘s review Edit

Intel promised Nehalem-level performance with their new Lynnfield platform and they definitely delivered. In nearly all of our benchmarks today, the Core i5-750 had a clear lead over the AMD Phenom II X4 965 and the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450. In fact, in many tests, it even matched the Core i7-920. Needless to say, the Core i5-750 earns top marks in performance.
