Sony PlayStation 3D Display Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

The best TV you can buy for $500. Excellent video, perfect for gaming, but it needs to match your conditions. A perfect display as a secondary PC monitor/game console TV at a workstation. There’s a reason why it fit in multiple gift guides.

Sony's built a lot of value into the PlayStation 3D Display, and if you plan to take advantage of all it has to offer, $500 is a compelling price. If you don't love stereoscopic 3D, though, you might do better elsewhere. Today, you can get an IPS screen for less money, with HDMI and DVI inputs for your computers and consoles as well as creature comforts like an adjustable stand, and even if your heart's set on 3D, you can find 120Hz 3D monitors with shutter glasses and genuine HDMI 1.4 inputs for the same price Sony is asking here. If it had some of Sony's audio expertise, or a built-in TV tuner, or smarter design, it could be a must-buy. As is, it's a good pick for the 3D lover's comfortably dark den, but merely a decent choice for the rest of us.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Sony PlayStation 3D Display's SimulView gaming experience is unique and fun, but limited connectivity, the lack of a remote, and a high price for a small screen size make it a bit of a niche purchase.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

While it does have the impressive ability of simultaneously sending two video sources at once, overall the Sony PlayStation 3D display is an expensive and small device that really doesn't fit in any practical environment. I mentioned earlier that it would suffice in a dorm room, but for $500 or so, two roommates could each purchase their own larger HDTVs and not need to sit shoulder to shoulder while gaming. If the price came down, the size increased, and the glare removed, I could perhaps confidently recommend the unit to someone because that would eliminate a few of my issues with the display. But as it stands in its current form, it's tough to find a situation that's ideal for it.

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

Sony has managed to make a $500, 24-inch display appealing by including some useful accessories, integrating 3D and offering the rather innovative SimulView feature. While this display is not our cup of tea, we can see how it could be hugely popular this holiday season. It pulls off some slick tricks and comes with the desirable PlayStation branding slathered all over it. If the Sony Playstation 3D display winds up on a loved one’s holiday wish list, we say go for it. It’s a lot of fun. Just don’t expect it to entertain more than two people at a time.
