Its Cevo Engine processing does an excellent job, but it can't fully rectify the shortcomings of its panel

Overall, the Toshiba Regza 46YL863 is a stylish flatscreen capable of a great HD performance, but it’s not the complete package. Poor 3D and unconvincing DLNA streaming prevent it reaching premiere league status.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Toshiba 46YL863 is frustratingly close to perfection. Its 2D pictures, for instance, are easily the best Toshiba has produced from an Edge LED TV, propelling the brand right up there with the very best efforts of its rival brands. Its distinctive design is elegant in the extreme, too, and its build quality is outstanding. There are welcome signs of innovation where the television's user interface is concerned, and even its audio is a cut above the super-skinny TV norm. It's just a shame that 3D fans have to put up with too much crosstalk for comfort.

We've observed during the last couple of months Toshiba has rediscovered its mojo, but on the evidence of the new 46YL863, it’s done much more than that: it’s successfully pushed its way back to the front rank of TV manufacturers. Finished in a smart brushed-aluminium trim and beautifully made, this new set is a premium model, its specification swollen not only by an extensive list of features, but by a range of technologies aimed squarely at optimising its picture quality.
