The LG 55LW980T is one of the televisions of the year for us, with a great picture quality for both 2D and 3D. If that isn’t enough, and it seems that these days it isn’t, this LG TV makes sure that it has gone a long way in making itself future proof with wireless internet connectivity, four HDMI slots, DLNA and USB offerings, as well as an iPad / iPhone remote control to boot.

In working hard to make the 55LW980T its best 2D TV to date, LG has also managed to serve up the most persuasive argument for passive 3D yet. So much so that we can fully imagine the set appealing to serious video enthusiasts as well as ‘casual’ users.

AV enthusiasts have been on tenterhooks for months to see how LG's new flagship Nano LCD TVs would turn out. So it's a relief to be able to report that they most definitely deliver the goods, combining great design with an uncompromising feature list and, best of all, some really terrific picture and sound quality. It's a real shame gamers might have to shun the TV on account of its input lag, but aside from this the LG 55LW980T is comfortably the best TV LG has ever made.

Ultimately we have no reservations in recommending the LG 55LW980 based on the overall image accuracy, impressive list of features and the quality of the 3D. However, it isn't cheap and if you're thinking of buying one we advise you to demo it first to make sure you're happy with the black levels and the banding issues prior to purchase.
