Canon PIXMA MG6220 Pro Reviews

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Canon Pixma MG6220's slower-than-average print speeds are offset by its competent extra features, including HD Movie Print, AirPrint compatibility, and dual paper trays that let you store up to 300 sheets at a time. In the future, I'd like to see Canon allow you to adjust the sensitivity of the control panel, but overall I'm satisfied to recommend this printer that finally achieves a balance between the modern luxury of touch sensitivity and the need for quick access to the control panel.

This may very well be my favorite Canon inkjet I've reviewed to date. The photo and text print quality is stunning, with great color and contrast in the prints, along with sharp images in great detail. The Canon PIXMA MG6220 also helps to save on ink; we exhausted a full set of inks (6 in total) and it was able to print 477 quality pages before the inks finally ran out. Moreover, there are countless features, including mobile device printing, wireless network setup, automatic duplex printing, CD/DVD label print, Full HD Movie Print, and Canon's new Intelligent Touch System. The system allows users to touch the control panel to use it -- meaning there aren't any buttons (except for the power button). The device even looks classy; it has a 3.0-inch adjustable LCD, it's covered in glossy materials, and all of the control panel lights up. The device is reliable, too - we never had any problems during our 477 page exhaust test, while scanning, or while printing photos. The only complaints we have are that the print times are slightly slower than they have been in the Pixma lineup in the past, and that the glossy surfaces will collect dust and fingerprints easily. We don't feel as those these two factors should be a deterrent, though, since the fast print mode can always be enabled for speedier prints.

This all-in-one inkjet has superb print quality, reasonable speed, and some nice extras. Its high ink costs, however, make it better for offices that don't print a lot.

If you want an MFP that delivers the basics with better-than-average speed and style, the Canon Pixma MG6220 is a worth a look. If you need an ADF (and can do without the space-age looks), check out its more business-oriented cousin, the Canon Pixma MX882, which includes an ADF and a more conventional control panel for about the same purchase price.
