Canon PowerShot SD940 IS Pro Reviews

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

The SD940 IS is a pleasure to use. It has excellent build quality and is very quick and responsive. Its small size makes it convenient to carry everywhere you go, so you're always ready to take advantage of an available photo opportunity.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Canon PowerShot SD940 IS packs lots of goodies into its ultracompact body, but if photo quality is paramount, you'll be disappointed by soft images - even under well-lit conditions.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

If you've been considering the SD780 IS, we'd pick the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS instead. It has the same great looks, the same quality performance, and a step up in specs that make it one of the best ultracompact point-and-shoots we've seen in the past year.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS makes no apologies for its stylish appearance and the kind of camera it's aiming to be. But it's also perfectly capable of taking excellent photos and video. The 120 IS is a smart and capable compact, with plenty of substance to go with its undoubted style. It doesn't do anything that rival cameras can't – and other Canon compacts too, for that matter – but it beats all comers when it comes to looks.

Seriously attractive, and capable of some great shots. But it's too expensive

Those looking for a portable, well-built, eye-catching snapshot model with a smattering of cappuccino bar style for weekend breaks or social events could do worse than check out Canon's Digital IXUS 120 IS.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

While its image quality may not stand up to higher-end cameras, the Canon PowerShot SD940 is a fun camera to shoot with and will appeal to snapshooters who want a tiny take-anywhere camera that's fashionable and easy to use. Its wide-angle, 4x optical zoom lens offers a lot of flexibility to capture landscapes at 28mm and moderate telephoto shots at 112mm. The lens/camera combination delivers good details but the lens produces some softening in the upper right corner at wide-angle and noise suppression tends to slightly soften the details.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS / PowerShot SD940 IS is a very stylish, very capable, yet extremely easy to use slim compact that produces outstanding quality photos. Canon's slimmest-ever IXUS / ELPH with wide-angle coverage has a maximum resolution of 12.1 Megapixels, an optically stabilised 4x zoom, a bright 2.7in screen, can shoot 720p HD video, and output both it and stills through an HDMI port.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

There's no question that the Canon IXUS 120 IS is a lovely little camera. It is extremely well made, looks great, is easy to use and performs well in all lighting conditions, and it takes a decent picture. The only real downside is its extremely high price. If it drops by £70 it can have an extra point.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Canon Digital IXUS 120 IS is very svelte indeed and has a set of controls that are a little fiddly, certainly the small size presents handling issues for those with larger hands. And yet this is a very stylish little camera. The £299 asking price looks quite expensive when compared with some better-specified, similar priced compacts out there.

The slim, stylish PowerShot SD940 IS is an upgrade over the sexy PowerShot SD780 IS, offering a wider-angle lens and a handful of enhancements for $50 more.

One of the best ultracompacts available, the Canon PowerShot SD940 IS nonetheless falls short of greatness in performance and photo quality.
