Samsung UE40D5520 Pro Reviews

AVForums‘s review Edit

Simply put, for the current asking price that the Samsung UE-40D5520 commands, just shy of £450, you can treat yourself to a television capable of producing very accurate, contrast rich images with a host of features not usually available for this sort of money. If you can put up with some light pooling and the fact that fast paced action will exhibit some blurriness, then the D5520 is a sure fire steal. Throw in some mostly excellent video processing and we have a very solid recipient of an AVForums Recommended badge.

If there’s one area of TV manufacture where Samsung has established itself as a front runner, it’s perceived value. Take this UE40D5520. It’s a touch more expensive than its Sony and LG rivals, but it looks svelte and modern where the Sony KDL-40CX523 looks dated, and it’s bang on the money, spec-wise. The lack of 3D support might drive some into the arms of LG’s 42PW450, but in every other respect the Samsung is the most accomplished sub-£1000 screen we've tested.

hdtvtest‘s review Edit

The Samsung UE40D5520 edge LED LCD TV has many virtues, such as deep blacks, excellent greyscale and gamma tracking, decent colours, solid standard-def video processing, svelte design and heightened energy efficiency. Although the TV’s handling of terrestrial SD programmes is somewhat soft, and our review unit exhibited some clouding and undefeatable auto-dimming, these minor shortcomings do not stop the D5520 from joining our ranks of recommended HDTVs.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

It wouldn't be realistic to expect a £600, 40-inch TV to be perfect. The best you can hope for at such a price is a good all-round combination. And Samsung's UE40D5520 is certainly that.

Although it's certainly not perfect, Samsung's UE40D5520 does the brand's usual trick of setting new standards for what we might expect from a budget 40in TV.
