Panasonic DMR-BWT700 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

We could use a whole page outlining the Panasonic DMR-BWT700’s features and functionality. Here we have a 3D Blu-ray player that’s also a Blu-ray recorder, is fitted with a 320GB hard drive, includes web connectivity, media-streaming, twin Freeview HD tuners, and can be fitted with a Skype camera. It’s even compatible with DVD-RAM. More than enough to cram into one fairly bland-looking box, we’re sure you’ll agree. The instruction manual is unsurprisingly huge, but even the most conscientious owner will be referring to it time and again – this is far from the most intuitive device. Patience does bring rewards, though.

reghardware‘s review Edit

Indeed, it’s a shame Panasonic hasn’t made made any significant changes to the user experience, including those godforsaken EPG ads. Given what you get on the company's tellies the internet services and digital media streaming support should be better too. In other areas, the Panasonic DMR-BWT700 performs well, the recording and playback quality is top notch and it’s packed with features which techie-minded folk will get on fine with it, but others will find it a bit of pig to use.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Adept with all dimensions of Blu-ray and Freeview HD, and exceptionally kind to DVD, the BWT700 is a superb chunk of home cinema heaven, but its occasionally clumsy and complex user interface mars its extensive archiving and storage skills.

With a more miserly hard-disk capacity, optional Wi-Fi and a single HDMI output, the DMR-BWT700 doesn’t have quite the same formidable feature set its bigger brother, but at around half the price it’s not an unreasonable trade-off. It’s not the most user-friendly Panasonic product we’ve encountered though – disjointed menus and a terrible EPG are the main culprits – and we’d like to have seen Viera Connect instead of Cast. But there are still loads of features on board, the highlights being DLNA, 3D and Skype, and when combined with comprehensive recording and editing functionality and superb Blu-ray playback it’s still a mightily impressive product.
