Samsung BD-D8900M Pro Reviews

itreviews‘s review Edit

Capable of being a high-spec media engine in a living room, we're not completely convinced that the BD-D8900's streaming capabilities are good enough, though the addition of BBC iPlayer et al is tempting. So too is the Freeview HD feature, though even there some recording options are a touch limited. Still, considering the price we'd judge the 3D-ready BD-D8900 to be fair value for what is an awe-inspiring feature haul.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Whether this is a hi-def personal video recorder or a smart Blu-ray deck is irrelevant. Samsung’s BD-D8900M is an AV all-rounder that’s as advanced as it is good value. It lacks the option to record, or archive recordings, to a Blu-ray disc – but it's much more affordable because of that. It’s also one tuner short of being totally flexible, and we did find one or two niggles, but this is as good as it gets in the world of Freeview HD.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

As a Blu-ray player, the BD-D8900 is well equipped. It's compatible with the latest generation of 3D frame-sequential Blu-ray discs, and does a fine job of spinning regular 2D Blu-rays as well. Image clarity is blisteringly sharp with rich colour fidelity. The player also makes a creditable job of upscaling DVDs.

reghardware‘s review Edit

Overall, the BD-D8900 is a mixed bag. On the one hand it has a beautifully designed user interface that makes its DVR and impressive internet features easy to use. It also offers good 3D Blu-ray play back and supports a wide range of media formats from USB storage devices. However, its network media streaming features need work – it's annoying that you can’t use the internet features while recording TV, and its inability to record two channels at the same time is a bit baffling in this day and age. So what looks like the perfect convergence device on paper, unfortunately comes up a bit short in practice.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

All-in-all, the BD-D8900M is a wonderful advertisement for convergence, melding together various AV components into a slick, single-box unit. It’s positively bursting with cutting-edge features too, ranging from Wi-Fi media streaming to comprehensive Freeview functionality – not to mention a massive 1TB hard-disk. There are a few minor operational drawbacks, such as the cumbersome text-entry system and the inability to record two channels simultaneously but on the whole it’s a highly impressive home entertainment hub that leaves few stones unturned.
