Ricoh PX Pro Reviews

www.whatdigitalcamera.com‘s review Edit

The PX is priced and built well for a waterproof compact and it performs to a satisfactory standard in and out of the water, but image noise and the low quality of the camera's LCD screen are the biggest downsides.

Best suited to those on a budget after something a little more rugged to withstand the rigours of everyday life, the well-made Ricoh PX is thoroughly fit for purpose. Backpackers and those after something for short trips will benefit most - though this is nevertheless a fairly uninspiring product.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The Ricoh PX is a decent first stab at an all-action camera that should withstand more than a few knocks and submersions. We appreciate the fact that the PX doesn't make a big song and dance about its tough credentials, looking to all intents and puposes like a regular compact, and there are some well-thought out controls that lend themselves to point-and-shoot operation in more extreme environments. On the downside, the PX doesn't offer the freeze-proof capabilities that some rivals offer, image quality isn't particularly brilliant, and the 10-step access to ISO speed is only beaten by the frustratingly unresponsive zoom rocker switch.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Rugged cameras have been around for long enough for us to no longer be simply happy to be able to shoot in harsh environments, get shots while in the sea or skiing. While the PX does a decent job of getting the subject sharp and correctly exposed, its images are let down by a relatively low level of detail. This limits the size of the prints that can be made, which is a shame if you are looking to blow-up shots from your holidays.

Still, given the price and the size (it's only 2cm thick, though it's a little wide at 10cm), the Ricoh PX is a decent camera with which to go splashing around.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Rather than being a camera which is aimed at those who have active lifestyles, such as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3 and Pentax Optio WG-1, this camera is more likely to suit those who want a day-to-day camera with the added bonus that it is water and shockproof. Image quality is good, as is colour reproduction although the menu system is not like those found on other compact cameras.
