Samsung UE46D8000 Pro Reviews

AVForums‘s review Edit

The Samsung UE-46D8000 represents something of a conundrum for us when it comes to deciding on an award. Had it not been for the highly noticeable panel banding and unwanted - not to mention undefeatable - motion processing then it would have been looking at a rare AVForums Highly Recommended Badge. The D8000 possesses enviable black levels that hold up under bright lighting; absolutely reference calibrated greyscale, gamma and colour reproduction; relatively low input lag and a wealth of features all neatly grouped together in the Smart Hub. On the other hand, the two issues mentioned are of such magnitude that a lot of the good work is undone and, as a result, this Samsung just misses out.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

With stunning looks, a hugely generous feature list and largely knockout picture quality, the UE46D8000 is a premium TV in every sense of the word, and easily justifies its asking price. In fact, the presence of the brilliant Smart Hub alone might be enough to make some whip out the credit card. Its few flaws are nowhere near grave enough to mar your enjoyment, making this Series 8 set an unmitigated success.

While the UE46D8000 isn’t without its problems – its 3D crosstalk, its average sonics, its minor backlight inconsistencies, its over-aggressive presets and the fact that it costs £100 than the identically specified but slightly less glamorous looking UE46D7000 – it’s still a genuine design classic and, more importantly, it’s a joy to watch for the vast majority of your viewing time.

hdtvtest‘s review Edit

Although its screen uniformity suffers due to the ultra-slim design, and the forced noise reduction in non-game modes might turn away video enthusiasts, we feel that the Samsung UE55D8000 gets enough right for it to warrant a recommendation to users who will appreciate its stunning design. Its excellent contrast performance, reference-level greyscale and colour reproduction (after calibration), superb standard-definition video processing, convincing 3D capabilities, and its Smart TV functions will also find fans.

Nothing about this TV has changed in a month, then, bar the price (a bit) and its star rating (more significantly). But the reason for that is simple. For all of its visual allure, we’re struggling to imagine anyone thinking this set is worth the extra £200 over its every-bit-as-capable UE46D7000 sibling. Far better to buy the D7000, spend the money on some more 3D glasses and invite a friend round.
