LG 47LW650T Pro Reviews

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The 47LW650T is another frustrating model from LG’s oddly up and down 2011 range. For while it makes a very convincing case once more for LG’s passive 3D technology, and is capable of looking outstanding with the right sort of 2D material, severe backlight uniformity issues during dark scenes and some inconsistent and occasionally very high input lag make it tough to recommend to serious movie fans and gamers respectively.

The LG 47LW6500 has a high quality panel that's able to display good quality video in 2D mode with plenty of visible detail. LG's stand-out approach to 3D, in its passive Cinema 3D panels, is smoother and less troublesome than 'active' 3D, despite a lower effective resolution. LG's Smart TV is every bit as good as Samsung's implementation, too -- this is another TV that does far more than just display free-to-air TV and movies.

There’s a lot to like about the LG 47LW650T: it delivers a convincing case for passive 3D technology, you get all those 3D glasses as part of the package and we found it restful to watch without the fatiguing crosstalk of some active-shutter designs. But, there are better sets out there for 2D picture performance, and the Smart TV functionality could be better. Plus, a recent price hike puts the LG up against some stiff competition, throwing into question the class-leading status it enjoyed at its initially quoted price of £1300. However, if you want a simple, fuss-free way into 3D TV that offers great 3D performance – and without the expense of active-shutter glasses – the 47LW650T is definitely worth putting on your shortlist.
