Slingbox Pro-HD Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

There’s no HDMI input, the web interface can be slow and we wish it had wireless networking, but it’s still an easy way to stream video content over the internet.

reghardware‘s review Edit

The original Slingbox was created to allow its inventor to watch has favourite TV shows while he was travelling. The Pro-HD still lets you do that, but without Freeview HD the new box is no better to use than the £50 cheaper Pro, though at least all the ports are built in. Yes, you can feed it from HD boxes, and that's handy - so long as no one at home wants to use one while you're away, so long as you lack an HD download service or a stack of files on your Nas box, and so long as you don't mind viewing sub-HD pictures. Sling, this box could have been so much better.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Nonetheless, the Slingbox Pro HD is a neat product that allows you to access your set-top box, PVR and various other video devices from anywhere you want through the internet. In that regard, it's perfect. You should never miss another show again.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

You can work around it, certainly – there are plenty of online Freeview guides – but it’s a gap in what otherwise is a very user-friendly device. Still, at £249.99 it’s hard to think of another device that does exactly what the Slingbox PRO-HD can, and most users will likely be relying on it to shift content from a hard-drive equipped DVR or other source and may never even consider the Freeview tuner. Just don’t forget to budget an extra £18-20 for each mobile version of the SlingPlayer app if you want it on your smartphone or iPad.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

We would consider getting a Slingbox Pro HD if we were confident of having access to reliable, high-bandwidth broadband in places where we expected to watch remotely - and if we didn't insist on flawless performance. Otherwise, the Slingbox Pro HD's predecessors provide similar functionality for standard-definition streams.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The place-shifting Slingbox Pro is a great way—especially for DVR users—to watch a virtual version of your home television on PCs or Windows Mobile devices.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Sling Media Pro-HD streams live TV to your PC or smartphone--but for most users, its excellent HD-capable picture quality will be diminished when accessed outside of the home network.
