Rock your head from side to side, or even go horizontal, and the picture remains stable and edges solid. The GT30 copes well if watched from a wide viewing angle, and the 3D effect isn’t sacrificed. Watch Despicable Me and, although the image is a touch darker than it is on some rival TVs, it’s more inviting, and characters appear more rounded, less like layered cutouts. Your eyes don’t feel especially tired. As with many TVs the GT30 could sound better. There’s a passable amount of weight and body to dialogue but it does sound closed in and ‘boxy’. The GT30 certainly makes for an enticing proposition.

Excellent picture quality, 3D performance and brimming with features, the GT30 is simply one of the best high-end TVs available today.

Overall, this 42-inch screen is extremely impressive from both a feature and picture perspective. If you're looking for a 'smart' 3D TV with superior performance it is definitely one to shortlist.

  Overall, I would rate the TX-P42GT30 as an outstanding TV. And should you want to spring for those expensive Active Shutter glasses, the 3D image is clean and immersive, its network functionality is first rate and 2D image quality is deeply satisfying. A score of 90 per cent seemed fitting on performance, but loading ads onto the EPG is Panasonic's ongoing conceit that ignores the user experience and can't be endorsed. Tempting though it is to knock it down to 50 per cent, at least the Freesat tuner EPG is ad-free, so it escapes a punishment beating.

The TX-P42GT30 isn’t without flaws, but in this reviewer’s opinion, dwelling for too long on these would be to miss the forest for the trees, because no other flat-panel TV in this price range produces such rich and consistent blacks. The Panasonic TX-P42GT30B produces high quality, detailed, accurate video in 2D and 3D, and we feel that the price is right. As such, we think it belongs in the “Highly Recommended” category.
