Pentax SMC DA STAR 300MM F4 ED(IF) SDM Pro Reviews

The Pentax SMC DA* 300mm f/4 ED [IF] SDM is highly desirable lens for sports and wildlife photographers. The performance is generally impressive but you expect no less from a professional grade DA* lens. In terms of resolution and contrast the lens is able to produce very good results straight from the max. aperture setting. The level of distortions is negligible and vignetting and lateral chromatic aberrations (CAs) are not field-relevant either. The quality of the bokeh (out-of-focus blur) is very decent except for highlight outlining at f/4. The amount of bokeh fringing is very well controlled. The mechanical quality of the lens is absolutely exceptional thanks to high quality materials and seals against dust and moisture. The new ultrasonic AF drive (SDM) works like a breeze - it's both fast and almost silent. A quite obvious choice for both enthusiasts as well as professional photographers in Pentax land.
