BenQ W1200 Pro Reviews

projectorreviews‘s review Edit

I really like the BenQ W1200. Its combination of color, brightness, and sharpness give it boost over entry level DLPs. The W1200 however, faces some real competition at its selling price and a couple hundred dollars below, from the Mitsubishi HC4000 (not as bright - better blacks), the Epson Home Cinema 8350 (even better blacks, best placement flexibility...) and the Sanyo PLV-Z700... My biggest issue has to be the variable fan speed and noise.

AVForums‘s review Edit

Overall, with a price point this low, the W1200 in calibrated picture modes defies its budget roots and gives us a performance it has no right to at this market position. It certainly out classes the more expensive InFocus SP8604 in features and calibrated image accuracy. It's not perfect out of the box and the black levels are a little light grey rather than black, but the W1200 is a bargain at its price point even with the added cost of professional calibration. Following calibration, the W1200 offers colour accuracy and reference greyscale results with good quality video processing and generous lumens output. It's a best buy!

Overall, the W1200 presents a great argument for not spending an arm and a leg on a high-end home cinema projector. Bizarrely, I’m going to advocate you spend even less. The W1200 has a lookalike sibling which lacks frame interpolation and is £200 cheaper: the W1100. My suggestion is if you like the sound of this model, audition the W1100 first, as I’m inclined to think the frame interpolation isn’t worth the extra wedge.

A great DLP projector with plenty of display options, but it costs more than the equivalent LCD competition.

BenQ has managed to bring some genuine mid-range touches to its supposedly cheap and cheerful W1200 projector, resulting in an image that can look ridiculously good at times. The projector lacks refinement in a couple of areas, but it's still very persuasive, especially if your viewing room has a little ambient light to contend with.

ProjectorCentral‘s review Edit

BenQ's two new 1080p projectors, the W1100 and W1200, are an attractive blend of high performance and low price. High dynamic range and dead-on color accuracy make them outstanding video performers despite their low price. The W1200's Frame Interpolation system adds options for video and animated film not present on much of the competition. A 1.5:1 zoom lens adds some placement flexibility. The two projectors have their quirks, but both deliver solid performance above and beyond what the price tag might imply. At $1299 and $1499 respectively, the BenQ W1100 and W1200 are definitely worth the money.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Ultra-clean and reference-level HD detail - together with startlingly bright and well-saturated colours - suggest that BenQ has developed a good value projector for all occasions that's capable of consistently incredible pictures from HD sources. We're not convinced about the on-board speakers, but there's no need to use them. Brilliant with Blu-ray and HD gaming, it's only the W1200's noisy fan and slight lack of setup versatility that would make us wary of recommending it universally; used in a permanent position this will hugely impress anyone with a separate home cinema sound system and a penchant for pin-sharp high-octane movie soundtracks that drown-out that fan.
