Panasonic TX-P42G30 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

Some manufacturers are more optimistic than others when it comes to pricing. Or perhaps some just like to build in a lot of headroom to let retailers offer eye-catching ‘discounts’. Either way, unless you’re a Lottery roll-over winner, you needn’t concern yourself with the £950 Panasonic’s own online store would like to relieve you of for the TX-P42G30. Even those who pay the £700 we’re quoting could try harder

Back to the matter at hand, though: there are a few small quirks to anticipate with the TX-P42G30B, but after making readers aware of these, we still feel that a rating of “Highly Recommended” is just appropriate given the HDTV’s price of around £850 (although the brightness shifting and lack of calibration controls in the [THX] mode did make us consider dropping the rating down a notch). In the end, we simply can’t think of a more recommendable display at this price point – nothing else produces the same combination of deep blacks, freedom from viewing angle restrictions, and freedom from screen uniformity problems that Panasonic’s Plasma technology provides. Combined with its strengths of excellent Greyscale and Colour accuracy, we can’t imagine many users finding fault with the price-to-performance ratio on offer.

AVForums‘s review Edit

The Panasonic TX-P42G30B doesn't look the part as a top-tier product. The rather bland styling represents a stall in Panasonic's design revolution of 2011 and is put to shame by the looks of some of its own 3D siblings - both plasma and LCD. That's not to say the G20 doesn't feel well engineered, as it does. We would also like to have seen an upgrade to the Infinite Black Pro filter, to improve contrast performance in more challenging environments, and the loss of the Satellite tuner is a small disappointment but at least the G30 is capable of receiving subscription free HD via its Freeview HD compliant tuner.
