Sapphire HD 6790 Pro Reviews

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6790 is definitely a step down from the 6850, despite having some very similar technology in certain areas. However, its price tag is also a little less; the £25 price difference still leaves it enough room to mark itself out as a high-value option. If you’re shopping for a graphics card at just below the three-figure mark, the 6790 is currently the card to buy.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

Performance, as expected, falls between a Radeon HD 5770 and HD 6850, though it's closer to the last-generation GPU. Looking across to NVIDIA, Radeon HD 6790 is competitive against the also-new GTX 550 Ti, and this may be AMD's express aim with this introduction. But basing a new card on what seem to be recycled cores means power-draw is high, more so than the faster HD 6850. So while this is very much a release targeted for a particular price point, AMD's method of achieving this positioning leaves a lot to be desired. The only saving grace is the excellent overclocking potential exhibited by the Sapphire card, but it's not enough to make the Radeon HD 6790 stand out, or even be noticed, in exalted mid-range company.

If you are looking to upgrade your current system from a card that does not have DirectX 11 support, or maybe you are looking to dabble into the AMD EyeFinity, you may just want to check out this card as it can do it all, and it can do it all with a pretty price tag on it.

An encouraging focus towards budget cards from AMD, but simply too underpowered.

motherboards‘s review Edit

In the end as far as sheer performance goes the new HD 6790 does indeed outshine the 550Ti by a small margin, so in that category the 6790 is winning. There are a few differences to consider in a head to head comparison against the 550Ti, the 550Ti runs a bit cooler, has a lower power requirement and is shorter by almost an inch.
