Nikon AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D Pro Reviews

photozone‘s review Edit

In summary, there's some light but also quite some shadow. The lens certainly can deliver very good results if you're aware of its limitations and issues and able to work around them. However, there is a dedicated DX lens available that delivers better performance at a lower price: the Nikkor AF-S DX 35/1.8. Its only disadvantage compared to the AF-D 35/2.0 is that it can not work as a single lens solution in a dual use scenario with both DX and FX cameras.

Significantly, however, the Nikkor’s performance improves as the lens is stopped down, reaching around 0.3 cycles/pixel, but even so the test results never achieve true greatness. The discrepancy in the results between the left and right sides of the field may suggest a lack of optical alignment of this particular sample, so it could be that the data recorded here might be an underestimate of the lens’s true abilities. Overall it is a solid performer at a reasonable price.
