Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Pro Reviews

photozone‘s review Edit

The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM DO IS is a promising new approach ... on paper at least. The DO elements allows a much more compact design compared to conventional lenses and our camera bags are certainly big enough already so that's something to be appreciated for sure. However, optically the lens stays somewhat short of the expectations. The 70-300mm DO IS is certainly sharp at 70mm but at 200mm and 300mm it's a bit softer than it should be. The contrast level could also be higher here at large apertures.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

If money were no object and you wanted a compact telephoto zoom lens with an image stabiliser that produces sharp images at all focal lengths, then this would be the lens for you. Unfortunately, most of us do have to consider the price at some point. This lens costs more than double what the standard EF 75-300mm IS USM does.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

A new triple-layered diffractive optical element (DO) has enabled Canon to produce a 70-300mm lens less than 10cm long. The lens also includes Canon's Image Stabilisation technology to dramatically reduce camera shake, compensating for approximately three stops in shutter speed without any perceptible increase in image blur. A virtually silent ultra-sonic motor (USM) gives the lens extremely fast autofocus...

Shutterbug‘s review Edit

When it was announced in 1995, the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM zoom was truly unique, as the world’s first 35mm system lens with a built-in Image Stabilizer (IS). Versatile, compact, and great for low-light shooting without a tripod, that zoom has been very popular in spite of mixed reviews about its imaging qualities. Recently, Canon announced a new and improved version, the EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM, which is also unique. The first zoom lens to incorporate Diffractive Optics (DO), it’s exceptionally small but produces superior image quality, said to approach the performance of L-series pro lenses...

The-Digital-Picture‘s review Edit

The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens is an ultra-compact and very well built telephoto zoom lens with excellent image stabilization and fast, quiet AF. I was immediately impressed by the solid build quality of the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens. It is not a light lens for its size, but the 70-300 DO is very solidly built...
