HIS 6990 Fan 4GB Pro Reviews

HotHardware‘s review Edit

The HIS Radeon HD 6990 is an ultra-powerful graphics card, that’s sure to please any hardcore gamer. Consumers must know what they’re getting into with a card like this though. For one, it’s going to require a potent power supply to keep the card fed with plenty of juice. The Radeon HD 6990 is also a very large card at about 12” in length. And it pumps out a good amount of heat, so adequate case cooling is also a must. Finally, the HIS Radeon HD 6990 (and all other reference 6990 cards as well) does get loud under load. In addition to the aforementioned items, the HIS Radeon HD 6990 is going to set you back over $700, which is no small chunk of change. Availability is limited too—finding Radeon HD 6990 cards in stock is a bit of a chore at the moment. But if you’ve got the coin and understand the nature of the beast, the HIS Radeon HD 6990 is a powerful graphics card that offers top-notch performance.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The HIS ATI Radeon HD 6990 is big, brash and very-very powerful. It'll require a sizeable PC (both in terms of size and PSU), and you won't want it anywhere where operating noise is an issue. However, its game frame rates are astonishingly fast. The £525 price tag is not cheap either, but for a card offering this much raw speed, rich gamers will find it a big investment they can't resist.

What's funny is that doing this after the HD 6990 CFX setup, this one almost seems to have exceptional value; and it does compared to that considering the price difference is 20%, while the performance difference isn't even 10%. Sure, on a whole there's better value setups, but the TPR paints the perfect picture and that tells us that there's only one setup that we've tested in house faster than this one. Sure, the setup is nothing more than a pipedream for some people, but the performance overall is just amazing and if you've got the money to spend this is exactly the kind of setup you should be looking at.

As you would expect, the HIS HD 6990 4GB is a fast card and overall just a great card for people who demand power. Overclocking potential clearly exists, but it's fairly safe to assume a lot of people probably won't bother due to the simple fact it's not really necessary.
