Sapphire HD 6990 4G Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The good news for AMD is that once again they can claim bragging rights on the fastest single graphics card. The bad news is that's very expensive, power hungry and, if pushed, very loud.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

The Radeon HD 6990 has more horsepower than any graphics card that has come before. The stats are downright scary, and running it with a single monitor doesn't do it justice. Really, at a minimum, you need to have three full-HD monitors sat next to each other before the GPUs become taxed with very-high-quality settings - anything else and you're just wasting card potential. The Radeon HD 6990 4GB needs to be paired with multiple screens to show its real worth. Do so and you're rewarded with an excellent gaming experience.

I have been using the card for a week now and all my games play great including MAFIA 2 so rumored to only be playable on an NVIDIA card, using of course PhysX driver that is available to everyone on the NVIDIA website. For personal gaming I use my Mac Cinema Display with a 2560 X 1440 Resolution 16:9 Ratio and I get amazing frame rates even with all settings set to their maximum in the Catalyst Control Panel 2 and the games themselves. This is plainly the idea of some lunatic at AMD who is so lost in unreality it’s sad, as beyond that the HD 6990 is one awesome gaming video card. I give the new AMD Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 an Editor’s Choice as beyond the price point if you want pure gaming power the new 6990 is the current king of the ring.

If you're happy with the out of the box performance and you prefer not to deal with the extra heat, leave the card alone. If you want more performance, though, and you don't mind the heat, make the switch. Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed with what the Sapphire HD 6990 4GB is able to offer you.

benchmarkreviews‘s review Edit

In summary, the Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 is the ultimate enthusiast graphics card. It dominates the landscape with unrivaled single-card performance, and matches very well against dual-card Radeon HD 6970 CrossFireX or GeForce GTX 570 SLI sets that consume more power and dissipate additional heat. If you're looking to match performance on the cheap, value-seeking gamers could purchase one Radeon HD 6970 now while saving to upgrade with a second unit later.

overclockersclub‘s review Edit

Is the HD 6990 the master of its domain? Why yes...yes it is. Much like when the HD 5970 was launched, the HD 6990 just cleans up and delivers FPS numbers that can't be matched by any single video card currently out today. In that respect it is a winning proposition for AMD as they rightly retain the single card performance crown. When overclocked, it moves one step further up the performance ladder with game changing performance.

Sapphire of course hasn't done much with the card due to the fact that it's only based on the reference design at the moment. It will be really interesting to see if Sapphire hit it up soon though and attack it with the ATOMIC or TOXIC series. I suppose only time will tell. For now, though, I have to shake the nerd chills as you do get quite giddy with the amount of performance that's on offer from this card.
