Altec Lansing inMotion Air Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

Convenience over sound quality makes this speaker a winner in my book, though it most certainly sonically stands tall despite its small size.

If you’re specifically looking for an iPod dock then the inMotion Air is clearly the wrong choice. However, its semi-portable design and emphasis on wireless audio makes it a really versatile speaker system for use at home. Its audio quality using basic Bluetooth is very good, and also provides Apt-X future-proofing, while its additional USB wireless option means you can use it with a computer and even add in a second speaker unit in another room. I used it at a dinner party last weekend and it worked a treat.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Everything about this speaker works well. It's a bit pricy though, which might make you think twice before taking it outside. However, with the range of the Bluetooth transmitter and seven-hour battery life, the InMotion AIR is wasted next to a PC. It might be expensive, but it's well worth the money.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The maker of both the first iPod docking station and “Works with iPhone” speaker system has turned its back on the latest AirPlay spec to configure its own Bluetooth-based wireless speaker - and it’s an absolute steal. Carefully thought-out and fine-tuned, it’s the iMW725’s abilities as a two-room audio system we like best, though it’s the generally impressive sound quality on this everyman wireless solution that scores it victory. Who needs cables, docks or even apps?

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Though it's neither the best-sounding nor the cheapest Bluetooth speaker we've heard, the Altec Lansing InMotion Air IMW725 wins points for its attractive design, portability, and plug-and-play setup with any PC.

Macworld‘s review Edit

At $200, the inMotion Air faces tough competition from the excellent Jawbone Jambox portable Bluetooth speaker system (), which is much smaller and (in my opinion) more attractive. The inMotion Air, however, can play notably louder and offers more playback controls; a wireless remote; and more connection options. If your first choice is portability, the Jambox is probably the better buy. But if you place a higher value on audio quality and control, the inMotion Air better addresses those needs.

The InMotion Air may be horribly expensive, but is an excellent completely wireless speaker.

As Huey Lewis and the news once sang It's hip to be square and the InMotion Air is as angular as they come and in dropping dock functionality and betting on Bluetooth probably as unfashionable as well. Don't be fooled though, Altec Lansing has performed miracles with the Air's Bluetooth streaming, extended its range, crammed it full of clever functionality, stuffed in a great battery and kept the price down. There are far worse fashion faux pas you'll make this year…
