Apple iPhone 4s Pro Reviews

HotHardware‘s review Edit

I like what Apple did with the iPhone 4S. The dual-core A5 processor gives the iPhone twice as much muscle as before, and the graphics engine gets a serious shot of adrenaline. Equally important for Apple and anyone who prefers iOS to Android and/or Windows Phone 7, these upgrades keep the iPhone from being completely passed over in raw horsepower, negating any temptation you might have to pick a platform you don't really want simply because the hardware is better. But what if you're platform agnostic?

TheVerge‘s review Edit

If you're an owner of an older iPhone, or someone looking to switch to an iPhone from a different platform, there's never been a better Apple device to buy. The iPhone 4S is an astoundingly good phone. Between the hardware (both inside and out) and the software (iOS 5 as well as third party offerings), it's just kind of an awesome package. The lack of LTE, a larger display, or a new design may put off some buyers, but that won't change the fact that the 4S is a force to be reckoned with. It's not exactly the same story as with the release of the iPhone 4, where you felt like competitors had to go back to the drawing board completely, but Android and Windows Phone device makers will certainly be scratching their heads trying to figure out how to best what Apple is offering. The iPhone 4S is a great device for some, but what if you're thinking of upgrading from an iPhone 4? That's a tougher call. The phone is faster, to be sure, and has an amazing camera. And of course, you can't get Siri unless you have a 4S... but I just don't know if any of those reasons are compelling enough to convince previous buyers to upgrade. The concept is a particularly hard sell for Verizon customers. The gap between this year's model and last year's model isn't as wide as Apple would probably like.

It may not look as amazing as the iPhone 4 did when launched, but this clever update keeps the iPhone up at the front of the smartphone pack

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

If you somehow don’t mind paying a huge premium right now, or simply have an unlimited cash flow, we definitely recommend checking out the Motorola DROID BIONIC because it’s seriously the most future-proof device out of the three. Yes, it’s priced significantly higher, but you’re going to be presented with a device that’s packing lightning fast 4G LTE speeds and the additional functionality of Motorola’s Webtop experience – while offering all of the lovable aspects of Android in general. However, it doesn’t mean that the other two aren’t great alternatives, but rather, they’re reasonably priced high-end smartphones that will appease people with their performance. With the iPhone 4S, it isn’t necessarily classified as a next-generation iPhone, since it’s nothing more than an incremental upgrade. And with the Samsung Galaxy S II, it doesn’t quite behold the same blinding aura as it did when it first launched overseas back in the spring. In any event, they both have their strengths in offering an exceptional experience, but the Motorola DROID BIONIC simply IS the epitome of a cutting edge smartphone – plus, it helps when it performs handsomely in a variety of departments.

The fastest smartphone bar none, but its chief selling point – Siri – is a work in progress, making the iPhone 4S an expensive upgrade.

MobileBurn‘s review Edit

The Apple iPhone 4S may not have a brand-new design or some of the features that other top-tier smartphones do these days (such as a larger screen or 4G connectivity), but it does offer what is arguably the best smartphone experience of any device on the market now. It improves upon the massively successful iPhone 4, and takes the crown as the best smartphone you can get. It is not perfect, but Apple's blend of an easy-to-use interface and stellar construction add up to a great smartphone that competitors are still trying to match. Though the iPhone 4S may not appeal to owners of the iPhone 4 due to its similarities to the older model, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is looking at their first smartphone or is wanting to switch to iOS from another platform. You could certainly do far worse.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

Yes, it's a dead ringer for the iPhone 4, but the iPhone 4S serves as a reminder that true innovation is never skin deep. With Siri, Apple has managed to make voice control not only natural but cool. The sharper and brighter camera, smooth 1080p camcorder, and zippier dual-core processor all solidify the iPhone 4S as the best phone on AT&T. iPhone 4 owners in the middle of their contracts are likely better off waiting for the iPhone 5, as iOS 5 and iCloud will extend the life of your device.

I suppose you could wait and see if the Nokia Windows Phone is going to be amazing, or if the gargantuan Galaxy Nexus is the Android phone that finally gets creature comforts correct. But I don't think they'll be better than the iPhone 4S, not really, though they may come very, very close, closer than anything's come before, like an asymptote. This is the phone to buy, for most people. Not if you have an iPhone 4, but for everybody else.

The iPhone 4S is a great smartphone, probably one of the best smartphones we have tested this year, what Apple has managed to do is improve on an already amazing device, the iPhone 4, if you are in the market for a new smartphone, we would definitely recommend that you have a look at Apple’s new iPhone 4S.

Unless you’re a diehard fan of the iPhone and have an unlimited stash of moolah lying around waiting to be used, or simply have an upgrade available, there’s no denying that you’ll find the iPhone 4S as the most amazing one yet. Sure we love its faster dual-core processor and improved camera, but the single best feature with the smartphone is found with Siri – it simply just works! However, not everything is peachy with the handset, which is evident by its less than gracious battery life. Our biggest gripe with regards to the iPhone 4S's features is the lack of 4G, which means it will provide slower data connectivity compared to LTE handsets on Verizon, for example. However, it should be noted that the iPhone 4S is just as fast as some 4G-branded smartphones on AT&T and T-Mobile.

The iPhone 4S is every bit a smartphone, and an excellent one at that. The range of functionality that it delivers, along with the entire ecosystem that it inhabits, still make it one of the best phones on the market. Apple has done an excellent job pushing things like the App Store and incorporating features that see wider adoption, like AirPlay, its wireless streaming system, for example.

The ultimate point is that it's precisely this tight, slick and sometimes limiting interface combined with competent hardware and a class-leading library of easily accessible apps that makes the iPhone so appealing. Yes, it's expensive and were we spending our own money, we'd probably look elsewhere for more of a bargain, but if you've got the cash and just want an easy life, there really isn't a better choice right now.

MacNN‘s review Edit

We wouldn't drop everything to get the iPhone 4S if we'd just bought a premium device, but we're still giving it a high mark just because it hits all the right notes. It's fast, it has a great camera and a still superb display, and it has an easy to use interface that has addressed some of the key gripes users had while adding some distinct touches of its own. iCloud and Siri may be familiar, but they each go beyond the norm to make their features accessible and, importantly, worth using regularly.

Let's make no bones about it: the iPhone 4S is one of the best phones on the market at the moment, and the best thing Apple has ever created. It's got all the right bits right: good camera, slick web browser, quality screen - and made it all work together in the way we've come to expect.

The iPhone 4S shows that Apple is able to stay competitive without engaging in the kind of specs race that Android handsets seem to be locked in. The Samsung Galaxy SII might have a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor while the iPhone 4S only has an 800 MHz processor, but that doesn’t matter. The software/hardware integration that Apple is so good at makes the iPhone 4S the most compelling smartphone on the market.

Our main criticism of the 4S, however, is the price. At £360 on an 18-month contract, it's hugely more expensive than any other handset. However, it's currently the most powerful and also has the best photo and video quality of any smartphone. It's also backed by iTunes and the App Store with over half a million apps - no rival can beat this combination currently. If you have deep pockets, the iPhone 4S won't disappoint.

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

After all the rumors, speculation and outright fanboy fantasies preceding the launch of the mythical “iPhone 5,” it’s easy to see what ended up being called the iPhone 4S as a disappointment. No LTE. No bigger screen. No slimmer shape. But if taking one of the best-selling smartphones ever and adding new features is a disappointment, maybe that bar was a little too high to begin with. The iPhone 4S adds a number of useful features to its capable predecessor, including a much-needed speed boost and the uniquely intuitive Siri voice assistant.

The iPhone 4S isn't the king of cell phones, but it's part of the royal family nonetheless. Even without 4G and a giant screen, this phone's smart(ass) voice assistant, Siri, the benefits of iOS 5, and its spectacular camera make it a top choice for anyone ready to upgrade.

Macworld‘s review Edit

In the end, the iPhone 4S follows Apple’s recent trajectory of iPhone releases: It’s an object of some appeal to people who last upgraded their phones a year ago, and over the next year a great many of them will find it worthwhile to upgrade to the iPhone 4S. But to all those people who’ve been hanging on to their iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, the wait is over: It’s time to upgrade without any hesitation whatsoever. The iPhone 4S has speed, a great camera, some cool voice-recognition features, and the same beautiful industrial design that was introduced in the iPhone 4. It’s destined to be immensely popular. The S, in this case, seems to stand for “sure thing.”

SlashGear‘s review Edit

There will undoubtedly be smartphones with faster processors, or more megapixels to their cameras, or high-speed 4G connectivity, or bigger, better resolution displays, but it’s difficult to imagine any of them competing with the joined-up ecosystem Apple now offers. Challenging the iPhone isn’t just about creating one single, better smartphone, but a portfolio of consistent products and services. The iPhone 4S may look the same as before, but it arguably represents just as much of a shift in the industry as the original iPhone ever did.
