Samsung UE55D8000 Pro Reviews

AVForums‘s review Edit

Ultimately the Samsung UE-55D8000 is something of a curate's egg with many features to recommend it and a few issues that are largely the result of marketing rather than engineering driving the design.

Although its screen uniformity suffers due to the ultra-slim design, and the forced noise reduction in non-game modes might turn away video enthusiasts, we feel that the Samsung UE55D8000 gets enough right for it to warrant a recommendation to users who will appreciate its stunning design. Its excellent contrast performance, reference-level greyscale and colour reproduction (after calibration), superb standard-definition video processing, convincing 3D capabilities, and its Smart TV functions will also find fans.

The D8000 is a superior LED TV aimed at those with an eye for stylish, upmarket tech. Its design is delicious, and its 2D HD performance is just as tasty – although I was conflicted about just how much Motion Plus picture processing I could tolerate. The set's 3D performance is also brighter, more colourful and more ‘outy’ than the rest, which helps mitigate against the 3D crosstalk. Perhaps the screen’s biggest plus is the Smart Hub portal, which has me genuinely excited about the future of internet connected TVs.

It oozes style, but some problems with image quality and poor internet TV functions prevent the 8000 from becoming a showstopper.

Samsung has clearly piled an enormous amount of effort into the 55D8000, and the results speak for themselves. It's a TV that's as excellent as it is innovative. If this is the shape of things to come in 2011, you can consider us very excited indeed.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Samsung has pulled out all the stops with the 55UED8000: 3D, Freeview HD/Freesat, net connectivity, media streaming and audacious design. Picture quality is terrific and the new Smart Hub portal offers enormous potential. The screen reviewed here is currently the largest model in the Series 8 range, but a 60in champ is due this summer. If the price or design is not to your taste, the brand’s Series 7 are essentially the same only with a different cosmetic design.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

After seeing some of its flagship LED TV thunder stolen last year by the 3D-led resurgence in plasma's fortunes, Samsung has gone into innovation overdrive for the first of its 2011 LED models. Its design will turn heads right away, thanks to the way it shrinks the bezel to the point where you frequently completely forget it's there.
