Pure Digital Flip Ultra Video Camera is half the price of its HD stablemate, but there's a clear step down in quality. The image quality on offer here isn't bad at all considering that it's only standard-definition 640 x 480. It's a little too soft, perhaps, but it certainly produces videos of a good-enough quality for uploading to YouTube. Its audio quality was better than average too. Overall, the Flip Ultra is a solid, dependable and easy-to-use video camera that won't disappoint if you're not expecting hi-def movies. However, it's worth considering paying a little more for a device that can handle HD.

Camcorderinfo‘s review Edit Like Unlike

Pure Digital saw a gap in the camcorder market and filled it. The story of its success is no more or less complex than that. It saw two important trends: online video is becoming more prevalent; and devices capable of recording video can be manufactured in a cheap, compact form. Despite these trends, attention was being focused on the cutting edge of video technology, which is expensive and complicated.
