Flip UltraHD Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

The Flip UltraHD is by all accounts a steal. It’s small form factor, ease of use and ability to capture 720 HD video makes it a serious contender for a place in the family camcorder category. Although quick pan and tilt maneuvers lead to a slightly distrorted image (see some of the videos), this draw back and its other lacking features can easily be overlooked in light of its low price tag ($200) and super ease of use.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

What the Flip UltraHD offers is an inexpensive and very easy means of recording HD video. It is small and light, making it a great choice when portability is an issue. Two hours of record time should be more than enough for most casual events, and the ability to supplement the rechargeable battery with good old, off-the-shelf AA's could prove to be a lifesaver when you don't have the opportunity or time to recharge the battery.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

It's hard to fault the FlipVideo Flip UltraHD. The cramped screen has been addressed and the quality of video captured improved. This camcorder is a very compelling purchase and its straightforward usability second to none.

MacNN‘s review Edit

If a budget-priced handheld HD camcorder is what you are looking for, the Flip Video UltraHD is certainly worth consideration. The video quality won't decimate that of much more expensive cameras, but it's still good for the category and very much workable.

softpedia‘s review Edit

Without a doubt, the Flip UltraHD pocket camcorder is a direct result of the YouTube craze, its various features making it a very good choice for users who've never had any experience recording video, but are really willing to share their (mis)adventures with the rest of the world. The device offers the simplest control system and user-interface we've ever encountered in a pocket camcorder, plus a very versatile power pack, one being able to choose between AA batteries and a rechargeable power pack for the option that best suits their needs.

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

The Flip UltraHD is an easy-to-use and very-portable camcorder that works well for casual video capturing by novice technology users. More experienced users, however, will likely find the camcorder’s high price tag, lack of features, and poor low-light performance to be a deal-breaker.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

As with other Flip cameras, the Ultra HD could really do with some image stabilization technology. Attempt moving footage and the results are very shaky; even when filming while standing still, you’ll soon be wishing you had a tripod to hand.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Pure Digital Flip Ultra HD has twice as much storage as the MinoHD and costs slightly less. It's large, bulky, ugly - but has a much nicer screen. Video quality is good, and far, far better than what we experienced from its predecessor. Colours are bright and vivid, and low-light recording is impressively sharp. The screen has been upped to two inches, making composing shots easier. Image stabilisation is completely absent. One of the biggest differences with the Flip Ultra Video HD over the MinoHD is the inclusion of an HDMI port. If you really have to buy a pocket camcorder, the Flip's point-and-shoot appeal shines through brightly. However, for about £160, it might be worth your while spending a bit more - as you'll find you'll be able to get something far better.

PC World‘s review Edit

The Flip UltraHD improves an already excellent line of pocket camcorders with a wider-angle lens, better low-light footage, more storage capacity, and an HDMI-out port.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The UltraHD continues Flip's tradition of decent video in a wide range of conditions with zero effort, easy online uploading, and compact size. However, the existence of pocket Internet camcorders as standalone devices is increasingly under threat from high-end camera phones like the iPhone 3G S and Cupcake-equipped Android mobiles. So, for now, the Flip UltraHD offers better image quality, justifying its reasonable £160 price. But the writing is clearly on the wall.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

We criticised the last iteration of the Flip Mino HD because we didn't feel it had done enough to stand its ground against the competition. The Flip Ultra HD, however, although sticking to the same design has a number of advantages over that model, with the only downside being the increased size.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The Flip Ultra HD is an incredibly compact and easy to use HD video camera. With no settings or adjustments to make, all you do is point and shoot. The built-in software allows you plug the camera into any Mac or PC and instantly watch the HD movies. It can also be hooked up to any HDTV via the HDMI port on the side (optional cable required).

The Flip UltraHD looks like the first Flip Ultra. The original's white casing has been replaced with a slicker matte black, and its gray sides have been swapped out for reflective silver...

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Flip Video UltraHD may not be the sexiest mini camcorder out there, but it offers a respectable feature set and some of the best video we've seen from this type of cheap, YouTube-friendly camcorder.
