Panasonic VIERA TX-L37DT30 Pro Reviews

hdtvtest‘s review Edit

If you don’t care about 3D, there’s not much to compel us to recommend the 37DT30 as a 2D-only display, given that there are cheaper alternatives out there with superior black level quality. (The superior off-angle quality of the IPS LCD panel is still something to consider, though). However, if you’re looking for extra-dimensional fun, then the TX-L37DT30B is unique in being the first 3D TV we’ve seen that doesn’t produce obviously degraded picture quality when it’s operating in 3D display mode. On the back of this strength, the DT30 pulls itself into “Recommended” territory.

If you’re looking for what’s currently last word in smallish 3D TV performance, Panasonic’s L37DT30 is it. Especially as the wearing of active shutter glasses ‘dims away’ the contrast flaws noted with 2D viewing. However, these contrast concerns do undermine the set’s 2D performance enough to stop us from being able to raise the L37DT30 to the 9 overall score level we’d hoped for.

Panasonic’s first toe in the 3D LED water brings a torrent of quality; sublime and clean 3D in the dark is married to all-round picture goodness in 2D. Our only worry is its lack of Wi-Fi and the fact that it’s harder to get fully immersed in a 37-inch 3D image. Not matter because a new user interface and a refreshed online hub kitted-out with BBC iPlayer and Skype video calling help make this an Edge LED set not to miss.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Panasonic's first 3D LCD is a huge success. So good is the TX-L37DT30B that we have little issue with declaring it the finest 37-incher in the business. If we view the 3D features as a futureproof add-on that will probably come in handy one day (when 3D glasses get cheaper), there's little not to like about this package of easy to use online content – BBC iPlayer in particular – and a decent all-round performance with digital media. But it's that sparklingly clean and precise 2D picture from all sources that is this edge LED TV's headline act.

It isn’t cheap, but the DT30 more than justifies its price with terrific performance.

The DT30 is a super-slick LED TV with more bells and whistles than a troupe of Morris Dancers. It does everything well, with only a few chinks in its performance armour. Personally, I’m not convinced this is a good size for 3D though. While the implementation is good, the cost of additional glasses and general faff factor mitigate against its appeal. What does impress though is the set’s excellent media streaming capabilities and the promise of the Viera Connect portal.

AVForums‘s review Edit

The TX-L37DT30B marks Panasonic's first attempt at a 3D LCD and the Japanese manufacturer is making much of the 'industry leading' 2ms response times together with 'plasma-like' viewing angles as a feature of their new IPS-Alpha panels. With motion blur and off-axis loss of contrast traditionally being two of the weakest areas for LCD televisions, it will certainly be interesting to see if the claims can be backed up by performance. Panasonic are also keen to point out that, in the DT30, 3D crosstalk performance will be best in class, again owing to the super-fast panel response. The 37inch DT30 is also joined by a smaller 32inch sibling in the TX-L32DT30B.
