DesktopReview‘s review Edit

Conclusion In a word, the XPS 8300 is successful. It’s not amazing - it’s the required refresh of the Studio XPS lineup that Dell needs in order to keep the orders coming in. The Dell XPS 8300 represents the first new product under the XPS brand since its forced retirement several years ago. As such, it carries with it some sense of expectation - XPS was great - could it be so again? It might be, and hopefully will be - some design updates, a couple of really killer features, and Dell might have something really exciting on their hands. As it is, the XPS 8300 is a really great desktop. Not an outstanding one, but a really, very good one. It’s fast and friendly, and for most people, that’s more than enough.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

There are numerous problems, then, but the price still remains the biggest barrier. At £1,159 it offers significantly less value than similarly priced competitors – and even a basic model without a TV tuner, wireless, Blu-ray and more will set you back £932. It’s a competent PC, but if you go to a smaller PC specialist your budget will stretch to a faster and more versatile system, with the added bonus of peripherals on top.

A true speed demon, the Sandy Bridge-based XPS 8300 sets a new standard for mainstream desktop PCs—at least for now.

This Sandy Bridge system has refreshingly different styling and some interesting features, but it's out-performed by almost every other comparable system on the market.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Dell XPS 8300 will serve mainstream users as a higher-end do-it-all machine, but gamers and performance enthusiasts will be better off looking elsewhere.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Dell XPS x8300-1225NBK is a nice mainstream desktop with good performance, but other competing systems have differentiators that make them shine brighter.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

It was surprising enough to see the Dell XPS 8300 just come out of nowhere and slap around competing desktop PCs with its killer mix of price and performance. But as we dug deeper into the system, Dell's system just refused to disappoint. To call this a "cheap" PC would do it a disservice. From its ample storage, to its ample connectivity (networking or otherwise), to its ample speed, the XPS is easily one of the newest white knights on our performance PC charts.
