jamo S 426 HCS 3 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

Cheap home cinema speaker packages are like fast food: the bigger they are, the less tasty they tend to be. Happily, Jamo’s S426 HCS3 breaks with convention by being both astonishingly cheap and really rather good, in a raw, enjoyably enthusiastic fashion. The S426 HCS3’s hulking floorstanders seem improbably huge, and capable of driving a great deal more air than the tiny satellites you’d expect to find at this price. The pay-off is that there’s no subwoofer, and its surround and centre speakers are much smaller than the fronts.

A good match for the increasing number of affordable but decent quality AV receivers now being made, the Jamo S 426 HCS 3 is extraordinary value for money. Although a few economies have been made, notably with the centre and surrounds, it’s a skilfully engineered package overall. Compared to the compact sub-satellite combinations that dominate the market at this price – and that make a subwoofer do all the heavy work – the Jamo system is a fully rounded proposition, if you have the floorspace.

It’s not perfect – some areas of its design reflect the low price tag, and it goes for high-octane excitement over finesse, which might not be what you’re looking for from a speaker system. But most movie lovers will be blown away by what this great-value system can do.
