Corsair SP2500 Pro Reviews

www.pcper.com‘s review Edit

This is something of a niche system. Most users will balk at paying $250 for a set of 2.1 speakers. Then again, there are those who do take audio much more seriously than others. While $250 is a lot of money, I feel that Corsair delivers a product worth every cent. I have been following computer audio since the days of those tiny, tinny 2.0 speakers that were battery powered. The jump to the Altec Lansing ACS-31s was massive from those terrible speakers. This was followed by plenty of competition from Creative (the original Megaworks 510D were fantastic), Klipsch (ProMedia series), and Logitech (Z-560 followed by the Z-5x00 series). Over the past 20 years we have seen tremendous leaps in sound quality in computer speakers. Now as we enter 2011, I can honestly say that these are the most accurate, well rounded, and best engineered desktop speakers that I have yet heard.

If you’re in the market for a high-quality speaker system and don’t have the room or desire for a 5.1 channel surround sound setup, we highly recommend the Corsair SP2500s. The Corsair SP2500 2.1 channel speaker system is available for about $230 currently, which certainly isn't cheap for a 2.1 channel setup, but they are worth every penny. Sound quality across a wide range of sources is excellent, plain and simple.

The SP2500 speakers are without doubt the best PC speakers we've heard. They produce superb sound at all volumes and offer more depth - particularly in the mid-range - than any other set of speakers we've had the pleasure of reviewing. It's an expensive set, but we doubt that you'll need another set of speakers this decade.

I wrote this entire review while listening to the Corsair SP2500 2.1 Speaker System. I honestly couldn't help it - it's fun to listen to and a system that I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with. It's only real deficiency, and we have yet to see a PC speaker that has overcome this, is its lack of powerful midrange. We haven't heard any 3- or 4-inch speakers that could handle the level of midrange a larger, more capable, speaker can. It's somewhat the law of physics - and you know how easy those are to violate... Still, the Corsair system is one the company should be very proud of - especially at a price point of $249. At that price these should fly off the shelves and we can heartily recommend it as a very capable 2.1 solution for those looking to get better sound with their office PC or laptop.

The Corsair SP2500 is a great and timely product that aims high and hits many targets. Inevitably the question of value comes up, and as always it's a subjective one. In our minds for $250 U.S. there has never been a better 2.1 system that we have received for testing. We feel that if this system had a European or exotic Hi-Fi brand name hanging off the front, the price would double without a doubt, and they'd still sell quite well not withstanding.

The Corsair SP2500 2.1 PC Speaker System goes to show that no matter what market Corsair enters they come in with a product that shakes up the industry, and this time it literally does.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Detailed, resonant bass and great audio separation result in immersive and really professional-sounding audio. High-grade components and thoughtful design drive mean it's a premium product with premium performance. The limited viewing-angle on the control unit makes detailed menu-hopping harder on the fly, but the simplicity of the unit means you can adjust volume and bass control with your eyes closed.
