Olympus VG-130 Pro Reviews

ephotozine‘s review Edit

With the VG-130 having been available since the start of the year, the price has dropped to a point where this camera can be considered quite a bargain. It has a full metal body and is capable of taking pictures with both good colour reproduction and detail. It is let down by some purple fringing, inconsistent white-balance performance and, if you like taking close-up macro images, you may find the 7cm minimum focusing distance quite restrictive. Overall, the Olympus VG-130 is an ideal choice for those on a budget and/or looking for their first digital camera.

You can do a lot worse when choosing your first compact digital camera than the Olympus VG-130 which packs a lot of features and creativity inside a solid body for a remarkably affordable price.

expertreviews‘s review Edit

It's a pretty fundamental flaw in what is otherwise a competent, keenly priced camera. Photos in well-lit conditions were detailed and balanced, with sharp focus right into the corners of frames. However, there was some noise even at the base ISO 80 sensitivity setting. At its best, image quality was only average for the price. At worst, it was disastrous. Looks great for the price on paper, but automatic exposures leave a lot to be desired.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

At this price point there aren't many competitors offering a similar feature set, but it's still worth having a look round for alternatives. If you can forgo the metal body, the dedicated video record button and some of the "magic filters", the older Olympus FE-5030 offers the same resolution and zoom range at the same price, while throwing in mechanical image stabilisation, something that's missing from the VG-130. Or, if you can give up some of the telephoto range, the Casio EX-Z550 also has the same pixel count, wide-angle lens and movie record button, while adding some creative Art Shot filters and optical image stabilisation to the mix for just a few pounds more.
