Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

Overall, this is a great lens that novice and professional photographers alike would be able to use and enjoy. If you don’t want to have to switch lenses constantly to frame different shots, the Tamron 18-270mm PZD B008 could easily become you’re staple lens. Granted, there are a few concessions that have to be made (the dark corners, the distortion, the weight), but none of those are deal breakers, and if you’re after sheer convenience, you just can’t beat this lens. The VC function makes most shots seem like you’re taking pictures from a tripod – even when completely zoomed out, and while the PZD might not be as fast as other models, it more than enough to handle what this lens was made for.

Shooting the Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD was a delight. Its compact size, wide zoom range, and more or less affordable price ($649) make it an ideal travel photography lens. The images produced were consistently sharp, even when shot under marginal lighting conditions. When combined with Tamron’s 11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 lens (now replaced by the internal focusing SP 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical) they would make a fabulous two-lens kit for travel photography.

slrgear‘s review Edit

As you can see in the alternatives section, the manufacturers have realized that they can't afford to ignore the travel zoom market, and there is plenty of choice for all camera brands. Tamron leads the pack with reach, though not by much; the actual difference between 200mm, 250mm and 270mm is not a whole lot to write home about. The 18-270mm ƒ/3.5-6.3 PZD is, for the most part, an improvement on the original lens, especially concerning autofocus performance. It's now significantly faster and much quieter. However, there's not much relating to improved lens performance, so it is probably a design story about maintaining an existing level of quality.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

Tamron's 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (B008) All-In-One Zoom lens is unmatched with its compact size and versatility, allowing someone to carry just one lens instead of a bag full. The only thing holding it back is the softness of the images that it produces

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Its lightweight, compact design makes the lens perfect for travel, especially when paired with a more compact SLR body and during testing it proved itself more than capable of delivering excellent quality results, when used within its limitations. The lens is very new to the market, and so the current street price may seem a little steep when compared to the competition. The extra 70mm, silent focusing and compact dimensions all make a noticeable difference to the usability of this lens and should be taken into consideration when making a buying decision. As the street price drops a little in time, this should certainly make a compelling choice for those in the market for a convenient one lens solution.
