Asus has a reputation for building reliable laptops, and the durable U31JG is no exception. It outperforms and outlasts many comparably priced ultraportable laptops, including Asus's own U33Jc. The U31JG isn't optimal for multimedia use, but if you're looking for a business laptop that lasts all day and is easy on the eyes (and shoulders), the U31JG is a solid choice. Just be sure to pack a mouse and a great pair of headphones, too.

The ASUS U31JG is a reasonable pick amongst 13.3-inch notebooks. It has more than enough performance for everyday tasks plus some gaming with over seven hours of battery life on the side. The build quality isn't the greatest but meets our expectations. The keyboard has too much flex but still manages to provide a satisfactory typing experience. Those looking for a more gaming-oriented notebook should seriously consider stepping up to the U41JF, which has a much stronger graphics card. Overall, the U31JG gets a recommendation. Watch for lower prices though; its MSRP of $849 is high for what is included. It would be a much better value priced $100-150 less.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

The ASUS U31JG-A1 doesn't break a lot of new ground. It's just a solid thin-and-light notebook that provides a welcome one-two punch of graphics performance and long battery life. We just wish ASUS could take the flex out of its keyboards. In this price range, we prefer the 14-inch Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG ($799) because it packs in more powerful graphics without adding much weight--though you do sacrifice about an hour of juice.
