Dell XPS 17 Pro Reviews

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Dell's XPS 17 3D is for those who want a powerful media and gaming 17-inch laptop, but in a more aesthetically upscale package than offered by Dell's Alienware brand. The stereoscopic 3D is gimmicky, but a certain breed of PC gamer will love it.

The XPS 17 is an impressive multimedia machine that doesn't cost the earth. Great performance and usability are joined by a highly impressive features list to make this a competitive package.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

If you want to call a 3D capable entertainment platform your own, you could take a liking to the XPS 17. We would advise everyone else to sooner take a smaller member of the XPS family. The XPS 15 is cooler, lighter and stronger in battery life.

PC World‘s review Edit

Dell's latest XPS 17 offers a solid gaming experience coupled with a keyboard and ample storage, but the lack of 1080p resolution seems odd.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Weighing 3.36kg with the power brick, and measuring nearly 40mm thick in places, this is no HP Envy 17. Still, if you're looking for a capable, premium desktop replacement that can do everything, the Dell XPS 17 3D fits the bill.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Overall, the latest edition of the Dell XPS 17 is a chip off the old block. None of the individual components stand out, and, on the surface, performance isn't something to write home about either, compared with other systems in this class. But the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts, so if you have a need for a desktop replacement that offers pretty decent gaming performance and Blu-ray playback, the XPS 17 is worth a close look. Still, we do wish it offered 1080p.

The Dell XPS 17 media center laptop packs a huge performance punch and delivers features no other laptop has matched yet, but it's not perfect - yet.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

The XPS 17 could have been a great notebook, if Dell hadn't neglected certain issues. Basically, we can't give the Dell XPS 17 an unlimited buying recommendation. Potential buyers should carefully consider what their personal requirements are.

Decent build quality, a stylish design, good usability, impressive specifications, all the connectivity you could ever want and some of the best speakers to be found on a laptop make a strong case for Dell's new XPS 17. Only its distinctly underwhelming screen prevents this 17.3in laptop from picking up a recommended award.
