By far the best mp3 player/multimedia device released by Microsoft, and if it only had a larger applications base, it would be the best multimedia device on the market. When I first turned it on, I instantly feel in love with the screen. It was vibrant, freakishly clear, and super responsive. Right away I was glad I got the zune over the ipod touch. All the menus were easy to navigate and the web browser was easy to use compared to most touch screen browsers. Music quality was superb with my skullcandy earphones along with my sennheiser earphones. Video quality was amazing on the high resolution screen, along with the video output of 720p. And then I got to the apps...and I was a bit disappointed. The apps that were available were great, but there was such a limited selection of them. (This was a couple months ago, so they may have vastly expanded their app database, but I am not sure as I no longer own it.) However over all I was very satisfied with the product. If I didn't need the money I would still have it right now. Great Product!
Too put it plainly, this is a wonder multi media device. It is obvious that Microsoft want a piece of the pie (so to speek). It will be interesting to see how the Windows Mobile 7 phone will sell in comparison with the Iphone. Personally, im going to get one.
Microsoft’s Zune HD is a touchscreen portable media player that has a number of things going for it. It’s thin, light, and has a brilliant OLED display. It can play 720p WMV and H.264 videos, which means you may be able to copy movies from your collection without transcoding them first. But the device doesn’t actually have an HD display. Instead, it has a 480 x 272 pixel widescreen display that’s actually smaller than the iPod Touch screen, which may come as a surprise to anyone that assumes a devices with HD in its name would actually display HD video.
The Zune HD is also one of the first consumer electronics devices to use the new NVIDIA Tegra platform, which bundles an ARM-based processor with NVIDIA graphics. This is how the low-power media player can play high bitrate HD video flawlessly. The Tegra processor also enables 3D graphics effects which show up in menu animations and in some of the handful of applications currently available for the Zune HD.
The Zune HD delivers one of the best portable music and video experiences money can buy. At a time when many people have shifted their focus to games and applications, providing a killer media experience may not be enough for potential Zune buyers.
Overall rating
9.0
Pros
The Zune HD's brilliant OLED display
HD Radio tuner
long battery life
movie rentals
and subscription music integration finally give iPod expatriates something to shout about
Cons
You still can't use the Zune with a Mac
Marketplace purchases require "Microsoft Points
" video format support is limited
audio quality lacks advanced controls
you'll need to purchase a dock accessory for HD video output
application and game selection stinks
and the recommended music subscription plan puts the real-world cost higher than the iPod
I owned a Zune 80 till Christmas. I recived my 32 and fell in love all over again. It has the features that the old was lacking. I am really more of a podcast fan. The new Zune is more user friendly. Easy to start and stop, forward and rewind. I see no use for the apps on the device. Not enough and what they have are not usefull. You need a good wifi connection for the facebook and twitter. The wifi on this is a joke. Zune has a good website, easy to find and manage your collection. I do have the zunepass. My hubby can listen to what he wants and I let him buy the 10 each month. I
I loved this thing from day one but the lack of releases for anything on it in so long got me bored so i let it go! I kinda felt bad that i didnt give it more time but usually you only have so much time to return something before you're stuck with it
I bought this device due to myself hating Apple as of lately. I already had a first gen iPod Touch, and couldn't bring myself to buy a third gen after the disappointing lack of a camera was revealed. This device has just blown my mind! It's GUI is great, the OLED is amazing and stunning, and the touchscreen is smooth and responsive. But here's the real kicker: the Zune Pass for fifteen dollars a month for unlimited songs to store on your Zune. And you get to select 10 a month that you can keep even after you cancel! This is a winner in my book.
The Zune HD is the newest Zune on the market at this moment. With a great looking 3.3 inch screen, the Zune HD can do everything an iPod touch can do, BUT BETTER! Whenever my friends see it, the are really stunned by the features and the quality of the product. Ive even persuaded them to get one of their own!
The zune HD in the next step in the zune line, boasting it's iPod touch like abilities while not being an apple product. The touchscreen is very responsive and video is nice to watch on the high res screen. I also enjoy the ability to 'pin' my favroties to the main screen. The zune hd 32 gig is my mp3 player of choice.
