Flip UltraHD 3Gen 1 hr Pro Reviews

PC World‘s review Edit

Cisco's Flip UltraHD isn't very full-featured, but that’s sort of the point. It definitely has its place, and it’s a great option for children, the elderly, or anyone who just wants a quick way to shoot easily uploadable video without any fuss. There are better-performing, more full-featured, more compact, and more modestly priced HD camcorders on the market, but the Flip UltraHD shares its predecessors’ elegant, easy operation. The Flip enters its early retirement leading the pocket-camcorder pack in sheer simplicity.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Flip was a minor revolution in camcorders, but it’s far from unique now. The waterproof Kodak Playsport Zx3 and low cost Panasonic’s HM-TA1 are both available for well under £100, and even though you have to factor some SDHC memory into their prices, they still make the UltraHD 8GB look expensive. Conversely, Sony’s Bloggie Touch MHS-TS20K and JVC’s PICSIO GC-FM2 add more features for not that much more money. So a lot is riding on the FlipPort. Let’s hope the peripherals are worth waiting for, as otherwise the third generation of Flip’s UltraHD doesn’t add enough or come in cheap enough to be as revolutionary as its predecessors.

MacNN‘s review Edit

With the new performance upgrades, the Ultra HD does have some advantages over its peers and some non-dedicated devices. It's hard to find a rival that shoots 720p video at 60FPS, and even today some pocket camcorders don't have hardware software stabilization. Very few if any smartphones and media players can do it, and even some point-and-shoot cameras can't record video this smoothly.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

This is certainly the best Flip we've seen so far and a marked improvement on the previous generation, but it's still a little on the pricey side, particularly considering the below average audio capture and the distinct lack of features. The UltraHD also deserves credit for its slick design and flip-out USB connector. If you're after a pocket camcorder that's quick and simple to use and doesn't include lots of confusing features then the Flip UltraHD fits the bill. Having said that, there are cheaper models around with superior audio capabilities.

Not all the changes are improvements, but with 50fps video and image stabilisation, we still think that this is the best Flip yet

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Flip UltraHD is a decent pocket-friendly camcorder, then. And with the higher frame rate and image stabilisation added since last year, it's definitely the best Flip yet. We still struggle to see the value there, though, especially when there are other handheld HD cameras available for a lot less.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

The Flip range of pocket video cameras has long been a PC Pro favourite, marrying ease of use with excellent video quality at a reasonable price. The latest Flip UltraHD adds a couple of major new features to the armoury: image stabilisation and 50fps video recording.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The UltraHD is a compact and easy to use digital camcorder that should please most any user who's looking for digital video camera that will fit into a small pocket or purse. Just don't expect this little gem to out perform your larger camcorders
