Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

There are some nice features of the Jolibook, but also some real areas that make this not so straightforward and simple to use. In fact it very much reminds us of the first netbooks we played with over 4 years ago that ran Linux. While this experience is vastly superior, you’ll find yourself struggling to see what you can actually achieve with the Jolibook that you can’t achieve with a Windows 7 netbook and a browser.

The Jolibook is a very simple netbook that’s great for checking email and browsing the internet, but if you need to do more than this its usefulness is limited. Without a constant internet connection, many of the built-in programs won’t work, and because it’s a Linux-based system you won’t be able to run software designed for Windows. Given other Windows-based netbooks are similarly-priced, it’s also relatively expensive. Ultimately, it makes more sense to buy a model such as Packard Bell’s Dot S and install the free Jolicloud OS yourself.

And ultimately, that's what it comes down to -- if you're looking for a netbook that's all about Jolicloud, the Jolibook and its crazy lid will fit the bill, but if you're not all about one Linux OS, giving up Windows, or having a cartoon all over your netbook you're best just scooping up one of our preferred netbooks like the Toshiba Mini NB305 or HP Mini 5103, downloading Jolicloud 1.1, and making a Jolibook of your own.
