Apple LED Cinema Display Pro Reviews

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The 27in LED Cinema Display offers all the aesthetics you’d expect from Apple, married to generally excellent image quality. However, reflections from the glossy screen may rule it out for some. It’s also expensive, especially compared to Dell’s equivalent U2711, which offers a whole host of additional connectivity options, far greater adjustability, internal processing, an anti-glare, matt finish and a more extensive colour space for less money. If these caveats aren't an issue for you, Apple's simply gorgeous aesthetics and slim metal build might be enough to win you over, though it makes most sense if you work and play in an all-Mac environment.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

Overall the new 27-inch LED Cinema Display isn’t the knockout I had hoped it would be. You get 90% of the resolution of a 30-inch display, in a more compact package. The ability to charge your notebook (if you’re a modern Apple user) is a nice convenience as well. And at $999 it’s actually more affordable than most 30-inch LCDs. With a 120Hz panel and RGB LED backlighting it could have been both forward looking and near perfect, instead what we have is a display that’s good, but not great.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

But our two biggest complaints? First, the height of the display: it stands slightly lower than the 27-inch iMac and isn't height-adjustable – we had to use a monitor stand (or a stack of books) to make it ergonomically comfortable, which rather spoils the whole look. Second, there's the little matter of price. £899 is a serious amount of money for a display, especially when you can pick up a decent 27-inch LED display for under £400, though admittedly with fewer pixels.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Apple’s 27in LED Cinema Display makes a great companion to any Mac that uses a Mini DisplayPort connection, but is especially well suited to Mac portable users who can take advantage of the provided Mag Safe power connector and the display’s USB ports to attach keyboards and other peripherals. Its glossy screen and lack of easily accessible colour and ergonomic adjustments might turn off some users, but for most fans of the Mac aesthetic, this display will fit nicely into both their workflow and their workspace.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

Professionals may take umbrage at the lack of adjustability, but as a high-quality TFT for Apple users, the Cinema Display retains some appeal. Good image quality, great looks and some rare strong speakers all combine to make the £899 asking price look almost reasonable. However, when you can get the higher-resolution, larger and near-flawless HP ZR30W for just £100 more, PC users should think twice before blowing their budget.

Beautifully designed and as impressive a performer as we've seen in a consumer monitor, the 27-inch LED Cinema Display will not disappoint content-creation professionals with a need for lots of room to work. Its stark design, gorgeous screen, and awesome performance all make it a winner. Windows users, though, will want to look elsewhere.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

As a desktop display and USB extender, the 27-inch Apple LED Cinema Display works wonderfully; however, for $1,000, there are better monitors that offer more options, including PC and Mac compatibility.

Reflective mirror-like screens are a divisive issue, which will at once separate some potential buyers. But as a one-stop solution for new MacBook owners looking to expand upon existing screen space, the LED Cinema Display works flawlessly. It adds more pixels, up to and beyond Full HD coverage, and also gently augments existing speaker performance. The quality of fit and finish are truly second to none, highlighting Apple’s remarkable attention to detail.

Apple's new LED Cinema Display is designed specifically - nay, exclusively - with MacBook Pro owners in mind, giving them a simple way to dramatically increase their screen real estate with an extra 24 inches of incredibly gorgeous video.
