ECS Elitegroup P55H-A (V1.0) Pro Reviews

hardwaresecrets‘s review Edit

P55H-A is a good option for your new Core i5 processor if you are looking for a mainstream motherboard. It comes with an attractive price, USD 135. Of course it could cost less (like everything in the world), but for a product based on a chipset that was released this week targeted to a brand new CPU line, we can’t complain. It costs less than competing products and thus provides a great cost/benefit ratio if you are building a PC based on the new Core i5 processor.

The board did, however, have one really great feature. This is that it offers great performance at a really low cost. For just $120 you can pick up a board that performs just as well as the higher end models. For this reason I'll recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind working with its quirks.

The ECS P55H-A priced at $140 USD is by far the cheapest motherboard and this shows in features, quality, and ease of use. Regarding warranty, ECS has a 3 year warranty on all their ATX motherboards so you are covered with that. If you are shopping for a budget motherboard the ECS P55H-A is a great option given how it performed acceptably and it is priced accordingly. If you need a budget board grab the ECS P55H-A.

motherboards‘s review Edit

This board performs great, with performance in the same class as other motherboards in this chipset. Overclocking was a bit of a mixed bag as the 750 CPU was able to overclock to 4GHz without issue but the voltage options did not allow me to see what the new voltage would be. From a features point of view the board is a standard P55 board but for $100 on Newegg after mail-in rebate this is an acceptable compromise as many other boards are much more expensive. The layout of the 8-pin power connector and IDE are interesting with only the 8-pin power connector in a great position for the bottom mounted PSU but not so great for the top mounted PSU.

Its performance however, was a bright spot and its benchmark results surprised the bigger brands. While there are still some minor issues with the layout and features, the ECS P55H-A makes for a decent budget alternative that is price competitive with the mATX models of other brands.

Overall, if you are looking for a low-cost P55 motherboard that does not cut back too many features, the P55H-A from Elitegroup Computer Systems should be on your short list.

We'd like to thank our friends at ECS for providing the P55H-A for our review today. While we had difficulties performing moderate overclocking and some of our benchmarks, we did have an enjoyable experience using this board. Its feature set and benchmarks scores aren't going to make consumers put it on lay-away for the holidays, but its ease-of-use and no-frills functionality are great selling points along with the $100 price tag. We've experienced a lot of ups and downs with ECS's "Black Series" motherboards and we've seen where they've had to cut corners a bit to bring the price of the product down.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

Starting with the most inexpensive model, the ECS P55H-A at just $120 is one of the most affordable ways to get on the LGA1156 bandwagon, but is it the smartest way? Honestly we think not as the Asrock P55 Extreme provides a significantly better product for $20 extra. The board's 8 + 2 power phase design seemed better equipped for overclocking and perhaps had a hand in keeping the Core i5 CPU cooler.
